Bangkok On The Brain

Let's pack up and hit the road.
...okay, not exactly a road trip, but a really long flight to the other side of the world. We will  stay in Bangkok, at the Mandarin Oriental.
It is on a river with great views from the rooms as well.
Not bad !
Enlarge this one to see the lattice work on the right !
Actually , this was my reason for this post.
And to save for my own 'design inspiration.'  You never know... I may need a divider that is 'open in feel' but is permanent like this one.
I think it truly is handsome.
These colors are bright, yet very warm and cozy. I think this room is pretty good.
Yep, I'd stay in it.  (LOL..... you KNOW it !!)
Look at the view... and everything else in this hotel.
You really should go to the site.

Luscious.

It is on a river. ( and there is that pagoda style lattice work )
I have been to Hong Kong , and if I could.....I would live there.
But I have never been to Bangkok.
And now, I have Bangkok on the brain !!
BIG TIME !
Would you chose to come, if you could fit it into your busy schedule ??
hmmmmm ?

Kitchens Inspired By Conservatories

Look at the shades for the windows and the glass ceiling. There are companies that specialize in shades for this very purpose.

What a difference these windows that run straight up to the ceiling make in this room. If you can not do more than this ….well, this is fabulous. And if you have a beautiful garden outside, it will make you smile every time you wash a dish.

Right ?

This is obviously a restaurant , but how great would this be added onto the kitchen part of the house ?

If you add a window , or change a window over your kitchen sink ... run in up as close to the ceiling as you can.

This could be done to add a larger eat in area in your kitchen.

You could even do this to bring the outside inside. Get creative. The possibilities are endless.

Do you think that an addition like this, or some part of this idea, would change the way you feel about your kitchen ?

Never Thought I would Go For ...

A Purple Sofa & Chairs.
I am not loving the color of the sofa ( it is lighter ) , but the dark chairs with the nail heads are killer.

But I think this looks divine with
the paper is like a modern Chinoiserie. No ?
The Black Wall Covering Makes It.

Honestly, I would be very happy with that wall in my home. For sure !
I am loving it.

What do you think ?
Do You likie ?

Mirroring With Antiqued Subway Tiles

This is a relatively inexpensive mirrored wall treatment.
The ROSETTES are a must when using mirror tiles.
I think this beveled-subway tile is the absolute bomb! Love.

This looks great, and what a fix this could be for a dull, or ugly wall you wish would disappear. The mirror tiles are antiqued. And there are tiny gold glass rosettes. Don't forget the rosettes.
Clear beveled mirror tiles.

Just a few patterns for you to think about.
If you do something like this pattern ( above) that I have provided for you, on a wall in the living room (or where ever...), just apply the paint of your choice, trim color on the molding, and insert mirror inside the molding. This is a 'guaranteed great' look.
It solves a problem or two in a big room with a long wall. Place your sofa in the center and blah, blah, blah. You will need less art by doing this, and fine art can be costly. It has always been a great alternative for me.
Above, I mirrored the entire door , and applied the molding over the mirror.
Jockimo has a great selection of antiqued mirror tiles.
If you go to Patricia Gray's blog, you will see Back Painted Glass that was used as a back-splash. Sometimes you can do the exact same thing with the back painted glass ( or tiles) that you could do with mirror. Check It Out.

This is a great mirror and glass site; Jockimo.com

Tell Me A Story

How Big Is Your Imagination ?

Did you take creative writing in school?
Did you ever have an assignment in that class, where your teacher showed you a picture and.....
said " Tell me, what happened in this room ?"  "What do you see ? "

What did happen in that room ? Hmmmm ?
To me, it looks like maybe sex, maybe something sinister - some kind of struggle, or maybe it is just a place where the guests at a party have thrown their coats.

What does it look like to you ?
Tell Me A Story.
This picture is from a Paris Design Show. I think it is rather clever.

Not The Same Old Room !

I think this yellow room with it's custom (tall) storage cabinets on either side of the fireplace, is a good look. And a clever idea.
Who couldn't use extra storage? And we all have things we seldom (if ever) use.

This is a small room but the tall cabinets do great things for the design of the 'impact wall' in this room.
Don't you think ?
Look what you can do with this tall cabinet concept !
This is the same room, but it is rustic in theme, and the pattern on the cabinet door is the only change made to the tall cabinets. But, the cabinet doors make the room.
Don't you think so ?

I do.
I just love design !

Personalize with Accessories, Take These BABY RATTLES...

Click on Pic to enlarge
When I am working on a clients home, after making sure that all the
Basics are taken care of …..them comes Accessorizing.

The thoughtful part, the time consuming part,
And often the laborious part of design.

The fun part is the actual HUNT, and most times you have to
very carefully get it to the client‘s home in one piece if it is breakable.
Me personally, I don’t like breakable anything but what choice do I have?
If it is RIGHT, it is RIGHT!!

And I have always had great luck when ignoring the shop keepers
who want to wrap it up like a mummy in bubble wrap.
It seems to me it often increases the risk of breaking it just getting
the bubble wrap off that an overly zealous salesman has wrapped.

I always have a lot of the big beach towels in my car.
Depending on the Accessory, I may roll up in a towel and place it behind
the front seat of my car on the floor.
It seems to brace it there.
If it is larger I just wedge it to death with all the towels.
You might carry a couple of old pillows in your trunk
when on an Accessory Hunting Expedition.

After all this……it’s always nice if they appreciate how ’brilliant’
the piece is for that particular space.
I was doing a Baby Doctors Home, hence the BABY RATTLES.

I was in Paris and saw these in a shop window and was so intrigued.
What in the world could they be?
They were beautiful.
They were antique baby rattles, and to me they looked like some sort
of jewelry.
They were made of sterling silver and some had ivory as well.
These were referred to as ‘Nanny Rattles’ because
each one would do something different, and the Nanny would use
these ‘Nanny Rattles’ to distract the infant.
Some rattles had whistles, some had quickly moving parts
( the sterling portions of the rattle ) including noise makers.
They were so great.I purchased about 7 and placed them in a bowl.
They were a huge success.
But, most importantly they were very personal and related to the Doctors Profession.
I was told that anyone who saw them always asked what they were, and he proudly
Tell them , “ oh my designer picked them up for me in Paris “ and proceeded to tell his guest the Nanny Rattle story.
