I Love Tight Back Sofas

Elegant

Versatile

Tailored & Sophisticated

I hate multi-cushion sofas.
My preference ALWAYS is a BENCH SEAT { 1 cushion }
or a 2 cushion sofa if they will not make a single cushion/bench seat.

&

Do YOU KNOW WHY
 there are multi-cushion sofas in the first place??????
When sofas were first being made....
obviously they were made for the 'well to do',
and they made only bench seats
{one single set cushion}.
The rest of us were sitting on hay bales.
I mean where do you think the pioneer woman shopped ?

Sure the saloons and whoooooore houses had them...
and in the big cities.....
the wealthy had them......
stick with me here....
I am getting to the point.

The bench seat takes more yardage than a 2 cushion
or 3 cushion sofa....RIGHT???
When catalog shopping {Sears}
and mass production came along they realized
they could use the scrap fabric for multi-cushioned sofas.
So there.....!!!!!
That my story and I am sticking with it.

In Boca Raton and I am sure else where as well.....
people fight me
and always say when I want to use a bench seat on their new sofas;

" No One wants to sit on the crack "
and I say;
" But you sit on a crack everyday, and it doesn't bother you! "

Of course they laugh...but they are still not convinced...
and when I tell them the 'scrap fabric' story',
{since here in Boca Raton they are status conscience}
they go for the bench seat or at least the 2 cushion sofa!!!
AWWWWW....at last!

Funny story right?

Tight back sofas give you the choice of having a cleaner-sleeker look
or you can have a very inviting look with custom pillows.
That's what I like.

I love this sofa.

And I found this one for a client of mine on a budget.
*Actually this sofa is more refined that the one above.

DON'T throw up from the fabric!!!
When it is recovered.....
It will be gorgeous.

I love the beat up patina on this.
I will not refinish it.
I will ad a bit of a glaze with a touch more blue/green to the finish.
I am really good at glazes.
And I love to do it.

I am going to make it into a TIGHT BACK with
fabulous custom pillows.
This sofa is 34" D   x  78" L  x  28 H
These are DREAM dimensions for me!!!
*I actually wanted the sofa myself.

I will post the sofa in it's room when completed.

What are your thoughts on TIGHT BACK sofas
and bench seats?

Get Out Your 'DROOL BUCKETS'

 re-post from 2009

A single fig vine (Ficus pumila) planted in the mid 1860s now covers all the interior walls and beams of the structure.

What is an Orangery ?
"The fundamental difference between an Orangery and a Conservatory is its structure, a conservatory is generally regarded as a temporary non-integral part of the property.
An orangery, with its greater mass of columns, pilasters and classic details creates a striking visual impact and contributes to the overall appeal of your home with a robust and permanent presence.
In the 18th century at the height of their popularity, orangeries were mainly used for the cultivation and preservation of exotic or delicate plants. Nowadays, with the availability of modern materials they are once more gaining popularity and creating wonderful family rooms for use as studies, dining rooms, sitting rooms and play rooms to name but a few.
The possibilities are only limited by the imagination"

The first Orangeries were created in Italy in the 15th. century. They were created to protect much prized citrus trees.
During the winter months, before there were stoves to warm the Orangeries, open fires were lit.

"Orangeries often featured large columns made from stone, and a solid back wall. The front and sides had a huge glass double door more often than not with a semi circular window above. The rest would have been made up of floor to ceiling windows, in keeping with the original architecture. Internally there were plastered walls, cornices and pilasters. During the summer months whilst the plants were enjoying the warmer weather the orangery would be used for entertaining and summer balls. But during the winter this is when the Orangeries were used as they were intended, for the protection of all those delicate varieties of plants that would mainly be Orange trees, this is why the term Orangeries came into being"

I think this room is so very beautiful, I can see myself in most of these spaces.
How about you ?
How wonderful this would be with a view of the ocean, or mountains and a huge lake !?

This looks like me. A space I would live in , cook in, hold court in with my nearest and dearest loved ones. Certainly, if I walked into a house that was for sale , and this was part of the kitchen...I would want to buy it.
What a great idea to have an Orangery roof...in almost any room
Right ?

"The definition an orangery has become blurred in recent times. Traditionally orangeries were constructed for the growth and cultivation of exotic plants and fruits. They were extravagant buildings with large windows and doors set between brick piers. The roofs were made from glass set on cast iron rafters and large cast box gutters to create areas of flat roof. The entire roof area was then surrounded by a parapet wall and the exterior walls were embellished with large stone columns and pilasters"
A Classic.

Would you like a room like this one ?

I am crazy for this!

This is charming.
The power of design is this...You could add a room like this to any home, and create charm if your home doesn't have any.

I Love Glass

It Is So Important

And there are many reasons why....

Light

Bringing the outside inside -
I don't feel trapped in a room with huge windows.

It is bright and shiny....I like that!

While looking for just the right space for my new showroom....
 I found the location, and it wasn't easy to find a shop with enough
window from left to right that would make me happy.
I did. It was perfect.
It just so happened the spot made my partner happy too,
and we knew this was the only unit for us.
But getting it was quite another story.

But finally after much finessing ....
we finally have the exact unit that we wanted.
With big one big window!!!

re: this closet
Have you ever seen these closets ?
I am not sure, but I believe they are German made, and are absolutely cool.
Love them.

.

...and my point about how glass brings the outside inside,
it also will bring the inside outside.
 And that is just what I need
when potential clients are walking, or driving by.
Right??

LETTING GO

Don't worry about losing.
If it is right, it happens -
The main thing is not to hurry.
Nothing good gets away.
~John Steinbeck, 10 November 1958

Wouldn't this be a good and healthy belief system to hold onto?

do you love this house?
I do.
It has been in my files forever
and I wanted to finally share it.

Bring It On!!!

I have to tell you
good things are happening.
I am sending signals out to the universe
that I want, and am ready for new opportunities.
Am I suddenly seeing what was already there ?
or.....
 are they being sent ?

Something happened at work
 that is absolutely the lowest move
I have ever witnessed in my professional career.

And it happened to me.

When a few words came out of my boss's { and the owner } mouth.
It was shocking.
Yes.
And so unbelievable to me
that something inside me shut down.

I wasn't upset.

But, I must admit to you that
I had to reach down and pick up my jaw off the floor.

The details are irrelevant....{but i will tell you anyway}
and trust me, you would tell me to pack my things up.

The next day before a media room project
that I had been working on was supposed to close {sold}
{for 86,000.00 of which they - the company i work for -
had to invest $0.00 - it was all custom work designed my ME }

In a calm and mature {hahaha} way
I stood up to the owner
when she asked me about the project
and "was it closing tonight?"

Of course
this is all about money,
and not paying me my pathetic commission.
If these people can't mark everything up 100%
they take commission away from you {the salesperson}.

They do it because they can.
This is a 'right to work' state.

Anyway ....when she asked me about closing the big sale....
I asked her;
"what exactly would be my motivation?"
"you have taken the commission away from me on $64,000.00 of it?"
"that's not right, you have had to buy nothing....
to gain this money"
"And if you try and change anything in this media room by so much as by 1inch,
you will be able to sell no media chairs."

Suddenly she said to me;
{while picking her up her jaw off the floor}
" I never said that " {oh yeah? is someone telling a twisted little fib here?}
"no, you just get 1/2 your commission"

hahahaha

No way.
I have a witness.
The salesperson who turned the job over to me
was in the room when she said it.

What's that line from the movie with Jack Nicholson?
" hey lady"
 "you can't sell crazy here"
"we're all stocked up"

Don't even try to pull that crazy making crap on me!

I say;
"Bring it on baby!!"
"GIVE ME YOUR BEST SHOT!!!!"

I am ready.
There is something big, bright and shiny
coming down the road and heading straight towards me.
I just have to be ready to go.
I am.
It is my time.

Thank you C.S.
ps
what is going on with blogger??
