Is There Something Wrong With This Picture ?

A man of G-d with a gun ?
No Man of G-d that I have ever known has carried a gun.

This not only looks strange, but feels strange.
It is most terrifying to have a clergy willing to kill you for having a difference of opinion.
An Iranian cleric and member of the Basij militia takes part in a military parade alongside women comrades to mark the national Basij week at a military base of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards in northeastern Tehran.

Imagine that there were plain clothed spies (the Basij) all around you in your daily life. These people willing , able , and encouraged to silence you in whatever means needed. That means beating or killing students, woman , children and men who oppose the head nut bag!!

How would you react to a Priest, Rabbi , or Minister being the leader of your country ?

Barometers

This is beautiful, and it works.
Everybody should at least have an internal barometer......don't you sometimes feel when there is a storm brewing ?
And I am not talking about weather.

When I accessorize a home I am particularly fond of antiques that function.
My clients and their guests always seem to be fascinated by antiques that actually do something.
This (antiques that look as though they do something) is always an ice beaker with people. It gives people something to talk about, or ask you about.
I love the face of barometers, and they come in many, many shapes and sizes.

Antique Barometer

The mercury barometer was invented in 1643 by Torricelli, a student of Galileo, in Florence Italy. At first it was found, when turning a glass tube full of mercury upside down, that there was a vacuum at the top; then it was discovered that the height of the mercury column varied slightly as both its altitude was changed and as the weather changed. These two discoveries led to many years of research by scientists, mountaineers and weathermen, not to mention cabinet makers, glass blowers and engravers, and the antique barometer as we now know it was created.
Barometers made before 1680 are extremely scarce since they were originally very crude and were used by scientists as tools of discovery. Gradually, the simple plank with a tube attached became the stick barometer, with its ornate case work, engraved silvered-brass register plate, tube and cistern cover. Until about 1780 barometers were still the preserve of scientists and the wealthy, but they had started to move out of Italy, up through France and into England. The Italian craftsmen responsible for making barometers - and there were many from the northern towns of Venice and Milan, still famous for their glass blowing abilities - arrived in England in the late eighteenth century.

If you have a narrow space on a wall and you want to bring some interest into the space. The barometer is a good choice.
Get headaches ? This little gem will tell you when certain kinds of headaches are coming.
This barometer would look great on a mantle or a large end table, or even a console.
You can see some of the sizes, some are 40 x 10.
That is an unusual size.
We all have ' bald spots on our walls' and this size will be a real interesting fix.
The storm glass is pretty cool, this three dimensional look that will add impact to any room.
I have included a bit of history.....
Would you like to use a barometer in the design of one of your rooms ?
Do you have an internal barometer ???
How well does it work ?

Two Kids From Miami Beach

Make REALLY GOOD !

“ Everything was done by hand in a free form, deliberately imperfect manner to lend an aged , timeless look.” ( John Turchin)John And Susan Turchin grew up in Miami Beach and went to Miami Beach High with me.
Their home is on Hibiscus Island ( connected by a bridge to Palm Island ) where I grew up....I am wondering which house their house replaced.
In the next post you can see an aerial view of Hibiscus Island.
Nothing in their home is formal.
The feeling they were looking for was " to always feel as though on vacation."
I really think they have achieved it. Do you agree ??
They have managed to stay married all these years and raise two grown children.

A beautiful success story.
Don't you think ?

Just A Peek At Ian Schrager

His passionate commitment to the modern lifestyle has been expressed through a series of pioneering concepts: The hotel as home away from home, the hotel as theater, "cheap chic", "lobby socializing", the indoor/outdoor lobby, the urban resort, and the urban spa.

Now and....
Then.

Schrager first became known for creating the New York nightclub Studio 54 with his partner, Steve Rubell.

"Since the 70’s, entrepreneur Ian Schrager, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ian Schrager Company, has achieved international recognition for concepts that have revolutionized both the entertainment and hospitality industries.

His passionate commitment to the modern lifestyle has been expressed through a series of pioneering concepts: The hotel as home away from home, the hotel as theater, "cheap chic", "lobby socializing", the indoor/outdoor lobby, the urban resort, and the urban spa.

His keen instincts for the mood and feel of popular culture were honed during the 70’s and 80’s, when he and his late business partner, Steve Rubell, created Studio 54 and Palladium. Rubell and Schrager soon turned their attention to the hotel business opening Morgans Hotel in 1984, introducing the concept of the "boutique hotel" to the world."

About Renée Finberg

I have been in this business since the age of 22.

I love what I do and cannot imagine my life without Design.

Design Challenges are great.

And because of those challenges

I have imported fine antique pieces from Paris,

Designed and Manufactured Furniture,

Created Fantastic Window Treatments,

And solved all kinds of spatial & architectural issues

With my unique style.

If I can't find it, I create it.

My rooms would make excellent movie sets.

I am a visual, tactile and audio sensitive individual.

Creating is what I live for, not math, not spelling, not science.

Just Great Design.

Just imagine how it would be if each of us,

If only for a few hours of everyday,We could be in a space that is our very own.A place that is exactly the way we want it to be

Surrounded by all the things we wanted to see,

The atmosphere we wanted feel, smell and the sound we wanted to listen to.

Private Paradise
