Salt Water Cowboys......

The Chincoteague Pony Swim

"The famous annual "Pony Round-up" and "Pony Swim"
is held each year during the month of July on the last Wednesday of the month.
The Chincoteague Volunteer Fireman (Salt water Cowboys)
herd the ponies off their island and through the sea water channel to Virginia.

Horses and their ponies swim
from the Virginia side of Assateague Island to
Chincoteague Island
under the watch of the Saltwater Cowboys
The wild horses belong to the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department, which has auctioned colts and foals for 79 years to raise money.

I have always wanted to go.
Always.
Running free-
The ponies live on the islands of Chincoteague and Assateague off the coast of Virginia and Maryland.
" The Ponies are a race of small hardy horses, compact and good natured. The legend is that these ponies swam ashore from a Spanish Vessel which had capsized off the coast, around the century 1600. Once on the islands they became stunted under the harsh environment. To keep from starving they ate coarse saltmarsh cordgrass, American beachgrass, thorny greenbrier stems, bayberry twigs, seaweed and even poison ivy. Because they drink salt water, they have an appearance of being "fat" or "bloated". The horses bred down to the unique breed we know today as the Chincoteague Pony."
I have great memories of riding a horse through river crossings while camping.
If you haven't ever done it.....
put it on your 'before I kick the bucket list.'

They swim just like doggies
and there you are
sitting up on their back while they swim across.
It is amazing.
Do it.
Does this not look like fun???

Have a sweet weekend.  XXX's

Would you want to see this?

"Today there are two groups of these ponies descended down from the only 17 original Arabian Horses in which survived the famous shipwreck. The two groups are "The Maryland Herd" and "The Virginia Herd". The Virginia Herd consists of approximately 130 head and is owned by the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Dept. The ponies graze in the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, located on the Virginia portion of Assateague Island. The Maryland Herd consists of approximately 140 Head and is owned by the Maryland Park Service" http://www.pony-chincoteague.com/history.html

I am not saying a word....

I would like your honest opinion of this room.
The wall and fabric colors, the roses on the wall above the day bed,
and anything else that you take in.
Do you think that the slate blues ,
and the grey blues that are in style now
will stand the test of time?

Thanks

'Sanctuary' For A Hooker (and other lovely pieces)

The other day I was searching for a side chair for a job I am working on.
During the process I was flipping through our source catalogs
and I found the side chair.
The company is Hooker Furniture,
the collection is called 'Sanctuary.'

I thought a little name association would help you to remember the name.
hahahahah

*Customers at work
always crack up when I say to them "lets look at the Hooker pieces."

The finishes are all up to date with the coming trends.

I love this piece.
It comes in a black wash finish as well.

This is a nice end table, 30 x 30 x 25

This is the ARM chair.

And this is the SIDE chair that I may be using if the finish works with the table.

Catch a ride and check out the new line.
It is very nice.
I think Hooker has great accent pieces
and I regularly use them in my installations.

Go here to see the collection at Hooker Furniture

I have been crazy this week at work
and behind up on my comments....
please forgive me. XXXX's

A ' Virtual' Shopping Spree.....Come With Me

I was in a real funk after work yesterday.
I was tired and blue and I needed a distraction like shopping.....
ahhhhh ...the bliss that shopping can bring....
Right?
So... let's go.

I decided to go to Horchow to see what was new.
I haven't been there in ages.
I found a few things that I absolutely LOVE..

This is one of them.
Horchow is now serving up 'antiques' of a sort.
This chest knocked me out.
The grey and gold finish is a stunner!

Here is a close up. Great right?

And then I saw this sofa and thought....cuddly, cozy, and stylish
I have always loved this table. It is 28 x 50, which is a hard to find size.
And it is inexpensive too.

I thought these where divine. The whole set is under $300.
The tallest is 24".

These tables are 24 high and 24 wide.
They are lacquered with nail heads.
I think they are sharp.

How about this collection of mirrors?

I decided to pop a few of the light fixtures
that I would buy and use.

Talk about Faux Bois......
this is a nice example made into a lamp.

I thought this was wild.
How about you????

This is like a gold washed mercury glass.
I think it is beautiful.

The lotus lamp.
I like this one too.

Close up of the Lotus Lamp.

This one is sharp.
I love the base.

I went flea-shopping with Claudia Strasser from The Paris Apartment
and she was looking for mirrors like this one.
"Here ya' go Claudia."

And finally I saw this patio set and was drawn to it.
I can just see it with kids sitting on the stump seats  in wet suits
eating hamburgers right off the grill.

Whew.....I feel better!!
My blues are gone.
Nothing like a dose of 'Virtual Shopping'
to cure what's wrong with me.

What does a dose of virtual shopping do for you?

Go To Horchow - and snoop around

About Renée Finberg

I have been in this business since the age of 22.

I love what I do and cannot imagine my life without Design.

Design Challenges are great.

And because of those challenges

I have imported fine antique pieces from Paris,

Designed and Manufactured Furniture,

Created Fantastic Window Treatments,

And solved all kinds of spatial & architectural issues

With my unique style.

If I can't find it, I create it.

My rooms would make excellent movie sets.

I am a visual, tactile and audio sensitive individual.

Creating is what I live for, not math, not spelling, not science.

Just Great Design.

Just imagine how it would be if each of us,

If only for a few hours of everyday,We could be in a space that is our very own.A place that is exactly the way we want it to be

Surrounded by all the things we wanted to see,

The atmosphere we wanted feel, smell and the sound we wanted to listen to.
