St. Tropez ( With Gold Ironwork )

A New Collection from Lexington .
This is brand new, hot off the press,
hitting showroom floors this week!!

A designer that I work with loves theses chairs so much
that she is ready to start a new design job based on the style and finish of these pieces.

A few of you know how I feel about armless pieces.
This one is beautiful from all sides - and that can be a blessing if you need to put the back of the sofa facing the entrance to the room.
Especially if you are tight on space or tight on money.
You will not have to buy a sofa table, or the things that you would need to place on it.
* to cover the back of the sofa
And if you are tight on space, this will negate the need to make allowances for the space a sofa table will take up . Was that clear?
It's a 'win win' situation. No?

These tables are treasures.
They are 24 inches square you can build the cocktail size that you need.
The gold finish is not too gold, not too shiney, it is just right.
In fact the finish is not shiny at all. It is almost aged in it's effect.

This console is a stunner.
It has a stone top, it is mirrored inside,
and has glass shelving and the criss cross gold iron work.
The criss cross gold iron work
is the signature of the St Tropez Collection from Lexington Furniture.

 Beautiful in person.

It is so hard to find a really long dining table that is beautiful.
The dining table from this Collection extends up to 124" long.
How is that for big?

This table extends as well. It has 4 leaves that extend the table
in such a way that it retains it's unique shape.

I will be using this china cabinet in a job I am working on right now.

What do you think of this collection?
The truth!

Do You Love The Look Of Fine Vintage Rattan??

You will have to hunt no longer. It is here again. Finally.
I think this chair is stunning.
Do You ?????

How about these ?
They swivel !!! (counter & bar ht)
I just placed these in a waterfront home in Boca Raton, Florida.
The thing that I like about these chairs is that their backs are low. Very Classy.

And the finishes on everything in this collection are just right. A warm honey, with just the natural darkness in the crevasses where it would have happened naturally with age.
And these are on casters. Chairs on casters are very big with the ' Grandma' or 'Bubby' Set in Florida.
This would make a lovely desk chair. But the arm height needs to be checked of you wish it to tuck under the desk. Although in this pic they look as though the arms are the perfect height.

This bed is very beautiful. *double click on pic to enlarge
I once imported an antique bed, floor mirror, and an armoir from Paris that was very costly. The mirror alone was 4,000.00 EUROS.
I do not have a super picture of this bed....but trust me. It Is Just Divine.
The night table in this shot is perfect. And what I mean by perfect is this.....
( you can't tell it is from Lexington, or is part of Tommy Bahama)
All the pieces I am showing in this post are actually made by Lexington, and part of a new Tommy Bahama Collection called Island Estate.
I can't help it, as a designer I do not like the palm tree logos, or any other tell tale sign that the furniture in a room was purchased as a package deal.
You know... like living in a hotel. YUCK.
Buying and filling a room full of one collection is called LAZY DESIGN.
It requires zero talent, and clients who insist on doing a room or house in this way really should use a personal shopper, not a designer. The client ends up paying us good money for very little work. No?
Look at the top part of this piece of furniture, the hutch it is sold separately.
Think of a problem you might solve with this, or any other great hutch that is sold separately.

See the pic below ? This is one of the signatures of T.B. collections. It is on everything except for the pieces I have shown you, above and before this example of the criss cross leather. The pieces below this close-up do have this criss cross leather on the tops of posts and on legs.
I think these media consoles are a fresh break from all the glass doors they slap on cabinets.
I really like them and plan on using them in my work.
Great bench.
Now this sofa & chair do not have the leather criss cross.
The tables are available, and are old time classics.

Let me know what you think??

xx RF

I May Have The Key, But The Door Is Still Too Small To Fit Through!!

This is a design issue that I dealt with the other day at work .....
The client had a small unused room in their home that they wanted to utilize as a
a very cozy TV / media room.
They had purchased a leather Natuzzi sectional. After waiting 6 months for the custom piece...
it would not fit in the room. No way, no how! They tried everything.
They explained that the door to the room was too small, and later.... after much probing,
they explained the hallway to the room had angles as well.

They were stuck with this custom sofa and were now forced to use it in the living room.
Which they did not want to do....but they didn't know what else to do with it. And now, they were forced to redecorate the living room too. ( boo hoo)

This was an expensive mistake for them!
As a designer I love stories like these.
Not that I wish people to make costly mistakes,
but it just makes sense to get professional help when making big design decisions and spending big bucks.

So, if you have a small doorway to the entrance to a room, and the hallway to the room has angles.........

I have a solution which that they were very happy with, and you might be too.....
MODULAR SEATING.

(love this sofa)

If you wish to, you can fill a room with seating....wall to wall with a modular sofa.

Alternatives to modulars sofas (which technically are individual seats added to one another to make a sectional)
are love seat sized ARMLESS sofas. You can add more pieces just be aware of the size. Don't go over 72" on the armless sofa.
If you absolutely need to have arms, you can add the corner pieces of the sectional..
*armless is easier to get into tight halls and small doorways. To get more ideas go here-

Have a great day! :)

Dorothy Draper And A Few Of Her Custom Pieces

What A Gal !

And what a gal I would be, if only I had accomplished just one half as much as Miss Draper !

This chair is what inspired this post.

It is functional Art.

Dorothy Draper Crown Chair
USA30's

These were designed for the Crown Room in the Fairmont Hotel here in San Francisco.
Price$1,650 ( I think this price is a bargain )
Measurements
height: (2 ft. 5 in.)
second height: (1 ft. 7 in.)
depth: (1 ft. 8 in.) 20" deep ? what could be better ?
width/length: (2 ft.) only 24" , how great ?
I might kill for this chair ...
And how great would it be
if I were writing this post while sitting in this chair ????

Beyond Princess !!!
These are silver plated handles on a set of night stands.

These look just like something I had custom made for a client. So, I definitely love them.

I could live quite nicely with these next to my bed.

These are from a hotel that Dorothy Draper did the interiors for.

Again, hotel furniture designed by Dorothy Draper.

I know you have seen the table toppers that they make out of painted tin, they add a false apron, in addition to the decorative surface. They are very fashionable and pricey.

HMMMMMM....I wonder where they might have come up with the idea ?
From Dorothy Draper tables perhaps ?

These look so heavy, I wonder what the wood type is ?
1st Dibs has quite a collection of Dorothy Draper Originals.

Armless Sofas and Chairs

This is a room I custom made an armless sectional for. This space was so small - it was a breakfast area, the client wanted it to be a family room/media room.
In the end it did work out well. I used Wall Mounted flat screen TVs
and custom media towers that were very shallow and hid a myriad
of problems.

I can not say enough about armless chairs and sofas.
There are no arms to go out of style. I love that !

Something else I love about an armless sofa is
that you gain approximately 24” in a room.
With some of those tiny spaces that architects and builders
have the nerve to call rooms you can actually make a functional
living room or den with these armless pieces.

When designing my jobs, that is one of my little tricks
I try and incorporate in the design of a tight space.

I want everything to look current but have a Timeless & Classic feel.
And if you skirt the sofa, there are no legs to look dated either.
Today most sofas legs can be changed. They literally screw on and off

What is of greater value than to be able update your room by a fresh paint job,
Maybe recover a piece or two,
new fabric throw pillows and a few interesting accessories ?

Bloomingdale's Furniture carries this line.

To make a sectional do not forget you will need a corner or 1 of the pieces made
with a corner as part of the sofa.
