DUTCH DOORS - I have ALWAYS Wanted One

A DUTCH Door ….
****{ American English }, or stable door  { British English } or
half door { Hiberno English }, is a door divided horizontally
in such a fashion that the bottom half may remain shut while the top half swings open.

The initial purpose of this door was to keep out animals from the farm, while keeping the children inside, and allowing light and fresh air inside.

This type of door was common in the Netherlands in the 17th century. During this same period they appeared in Dutch paintings. They were also commonly found in the Dutch cultural areas of New York & New Jersey before the American Revolution.

How sweet is this?

Nothing would make me happier
than having my horse stick his head in the dutch door and 'BEG',
pawing his right leg -
and moving his head up and down -
with an occasional whinny~
{he begs so well}
....for a carrot or some oatmeal cookies.

I would grab my coffee and go outside give him his cookies....
and then lay where he chooses to graze.

PURE HEAVEN!!!

Are you a fan of Dutch Doors??

Fabulous Chicken Coops

This is such a charming chicken coop,
that all of a sudden ...
I want to raise chickens.
HUH?
Where did that come from????

This only confirms to me the power of
IMAGE.

I like this coop because it's rather 'un-chicken coopish.'
And the thought of me raising chickens sounds like fun
but maybe messy.
I am so freaked out by bird poop.

I did date a man who had a small horse farm and a small chicken coop.
That was my first experience with 'free ranging around the yard' chickens.
And my first time eating 5 minute old eggs.
They are tastier....!!!!

This coop reminds me of my favorite breakfast
Huevos Rancheros.
A Mexican egg breakfast....
check it out.

The power of landscape!!!
Imagine this chicken coop without the climbing roses.
Nothin'!
So....
This chicken coop reminds me of 'Sconset' Nantucket.
The prettiest village on the island in my opinion.

I think for a small child collecting the eggs from a chicken coop
would be very memorable.
Don't you?

Then I guess this might be a 'starter coop!!'

It seems like a daunting task....I think I will stick with the door knocker for now.

Would you have a chicken coop
if you had enough space
and the coop was going to be gorgeous?

Do you know anything about raising chickens ?
Is it complicated ?

If you are at a high enough altitude .....
no worries.

NO BUGS.

What do you think of this?
Would you if you could use a glass garage door in your home?
