Some Beauty Doesn't Fade

This post is about my attraction to Portuguese Tiles.
The Moors had their hand in the original designs, including patterns and colors.

Below you will see some applications done with these works of art.

This will always be my kind of style....it is forever!!
If you like it too you can...

I was completely smitten for life.
*Smitten;
If you are smitten, you find someone so attractive that you are or seem to be in love with them.
They were totally smitten with each other
If you are smitten by something, you are very impressed by it and enthusiastic about it.

I was never a blue person really.
But I was at the design center in Manhattan in the late 70's , there was this very dark walnut square cocktail table with Portuguese Tile in the center. I was of course drawn to it. So I inquired ,and it turned out that Anne Bancroft had originally ordered it because she was going to be in a show on Broadway and needed to furnish an apartment. The show was cancelled and she never took possession the table. Guess who did take possession????
That's right. Me!!!
I had it for many years until I gave it to my cousin who being the idiot that he is....
lost it or gave it away. I mean that in the nicest way - snicker, snicker.

The glazed ceramic tiles "azulejos" were imported from Spain and the motifs and techniques were all Spanish-Muslim.

Do you like these tiles?
Could you think of a place to incorporate them into your home?

He Can't Be Painted From Memory

Tonight I was speaking to my daughter (on the phone), my only child, my sweet little blonde angel.
Her 22 year old heart has just been broken.
( I don't dare share with her how that this is only the beginning.....)
Has anyone ever told you they don't love you anymore?
I have been told that.....it hits hard......and it hurts hard.

The song below is one of my favorites by Burt Bacharach, and sung by Elvis Costello.
I have cried myself to sleep listening to this song more nights than I would like to admit.

If I could take the pain for her I would...I know how to 'do pain.'
But I can't take hers.
It is her pain and her journey.
It is not mine to take.

But listening to the sadness in her voice,  and hearing her cry is almost more than I can bare.
But I will.
And I will be there and I will listen.
I won't judge or tell her
I told you so.

Don't you agree that it is hard to 'shut up' when we need to,
and not try and fix every little thing ?
When we really can't....
Because Time will fix it.
Right?
And just being there is the most important.....I am hoping.

I SPY - A short CHAISE..... Or Is It A Chair For Tommy ???

The picture below is from a previous post about
'Round Hill'
an outrageously beautiful resort in Jamaica.
Ralph Lauren helped with the re-do a few years ago......
look at these chairs,
I think they are short chaise lounges. No?
How clever is that???
The chairs are too deep for most.
Except for maybe Tommy Tune.

I mean, you really don't need you feet supported if your legs are.
Your feet can hang off the edge of the chair and it would still be super comfy.
Your legs are still elevated.
Just think of all the space you gain in the room
when your chaise is 6" or 9" shorter.
Hey....ya' think it is just me that sees these chairs as baby lounge chairs?
I do have little legs...I am only 5'2".

Do you think there would be a market
for a chair/chaise like this one?
Would you want one?
If you had limited space and wanted a chaise....
would it bother you to have you feet hanging off the edge?

St. Tropez ( With Gold Ironwork )

A New Collection from Lexington .
This is brand new, hot off the press,
hitting showroom floors this week!!

A designer that I work with loves theses chairs so much
that she is ready to start a new design job based on the style and finish of these pieces.

A few of you know how I feel about armless pieces.
This one is beautiful from all sides - and that can be a blessing if you need to put the back of the sofa facing the entrance to the room.
Especially if you are tight on space or tight on money.
You will not have to buy a sofa table, or the things that you would need to place on it.
* to cover the back of the sofa
And if you are tight on space, this will negate the need to make allowances for the space a sofa table will take up . Was that clear?
It's a 'win win' situation. No?

These tables are treasures.
They are 24 inches square you can build the cocktail size that you need.
The gold finish is not too gold, not too shiney, it is just right.
In fact the finish is not shiny at all. It is almost aged in it's effect.

This console is a stunner.
It has a stone top, it is mirrored inside,
and has glass shelving and the criss cross gold iron work.
The criss cross gold iron work
is the signature of the St Tropez Collection from Lexington Furniture.

 Beautiful in person.

It is so hard to find a really long dining table that is beautiful.
The dining table from this Collection extends up to 124" long.
How is that for big?

This table extends as well. It has 4 leaves that extend the table
in such a way that it retains it's unique shape.

I will be using this china cabinet in a job I am working on right now.

What do you think of this collection?
The truth!

About Renée Finberg

I have been in this business since the age of 22.

I love what I do and cannot imagine my life without Design.

Design Challenges are great.

And because of those challenges

I have imported fine antique pieces from Paris,

Designed and Manufactured Furniture,

Created Fantastic Window Treatments,

And solved all kinds of spatial & architectural issues

With my unique style.

If I can't find it, I create it.

My rooms would make excellent movie sets.

I am a visual, tactile and audio sensitive individual.

Creating is what I live for, not math, not spelling, not science.

Just Great Design.

Just imagine how it would be if each of us,

If only for a few hours of everyday,We could be in a space that is our very own.A place that is exactly the way we want it to be

Surrounded by all the things we wanted to see,

The atmosphere we wanted feel, smell and the sound we wanted to listen to.
