BOING , BOING , BOING !!!!

Remember Lara & Dr Zhivago ????
Remember when they ran away and hid in the frozen palace ?
This made a huge impression on me.
The first chandelier I bought was on E. 61st St. in NYC.
It was an ornate Murano Glass chandelier in a milky white. And I had to have it because it reminded of the frozen over palace that the lovers hid in during the revolution.
BOING !!! We bounce back like magic every year.
The FREEZE is over now........................it is spring.

Love is in the air...............

Happy Springtime

Believe it or not, the close-up of this branch is what started this post.

I found this 6 months ago and thought...............hmmmmmm....
If I were a patient person, with a steady hand, or I could deal with tedious......
I would try to make this. This pic is a closeup of a chandelier made entirely of branches.
Obviously, they are wired by hand ,and then the tiniest bulbs are attached.
Then, teeny tiny little shells or flat beads ( whatever) are attached around the bulbs.
How FABOO !!!!!
Savanna, Georgia

I saw this and thought of FIFI FLOWERS, and said to myself; "FIFI's work would be great on fabric, I wonder if she might try it ? "
Yes, I would like FIFI's design more than this ! ( duh ) Although it is all a matter of personal preference.

Mr. Lobrano's 20,000 Feet

In Hilton Head
20,000 feet under air gets tediously detailed & designed by Edward Lobrano.
Classic
Dramatic & Traditional

This could be from an old movie circa 1940..............timeless.
Serenely Elegant
I miss this.......years ago this is what designers would do;
Pattern everywhere.
I am old school, I LOVE IT !

Derailed

My brain,
did it again ,
it was dreaming while awake......
Dreaming while awake ....
I was fantasizing about buying a really beautiful piece of property with a view.

If it doesn't have a view, then I will make one
with a garden.

Dreaming while awake.....
What would be inexpensive to build , and live in ?
Really different ?
Charming ?
And Really FAST !
( I want what I want , when I want it )
Something small , quaint ,and really well built.
....and just right for my particular purpose.
A sort of play-house, that I could be very comfortable in and stay for quite a while if I wished to.
An escape ( yes - another one ), with minimum commitment, if you follow my meaning.
A trailer of any sort is out of the question !!!

But a train, is historical, is funky ,is mechanical ,and is built like a tank.
after all , trains are built to withstand a crash.
Dreaming while awake....
A very private place , where I can hide in plain site.
I want it to be in a tiny little seaside village, where I can bicycle & walk to everything.

(The Orient Express) This might work.

' LIFE'S CRASHES ' make me dream of this place.

Dreaming while awake...
These are some of the woods that I would consider for the interior paneling etc.
If it ends up being a true summer place, I would choose the whitewash burl.
If I will be running up to my caboose cabin all during the year............I would then use my all time favorite WALNUT & Walnut Burl. YUMMO !!!
Dreaming while awake....
This wouldn't be bad at all. I would really be able to get lost here.
This setting is certainly elegant enough for entertaining..................
Dreaming while awake.....
Oh look, it's Cary Grant and me !!! wink wink ( North By Northwest )
He is a lovely dinner guest, but it was a real task getting him to remove those RayBan's.
.....MISSION ACCOMPLISHED after a cocktail or two.
A framed photograph of heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post as seen in the observation salon of private car Chapel Hill. DeWitt Chapple, Jr. restored the car in 1971. Chapple retained the car’s number, but added the name Chapel Hill after his alma mater, the University of North Carolina, in Chapel Hill. It has been chartered for whistle stop tours.
Dreaming while awake...
I even have a small desk where I can blog on my laptop.
There is enough room (in the very back) for a bistro table ( 18" -24" top ) and 2 tiny side chairs for coffee in the morning.
See ? Just enough room.
With the canopy, I can sit a while longer , even if it begins to rain.

These trains are very roomy.
Keep in mind....I am small.
So everything looks 'big enough' to me .

Dreaming while awake...
This will be the view from my tiny Pullman kitchen. Imagine all the super space saver, and high tech gadgets I can hide behind the gorgeous paneling.
'Our Truest life is when we are in our dreams awake.' Thoreau

Can you see this place in your head like I do ??

Pecky (sinker) Cypress

CYPRESS WOOD

Expect this wood to last over 150 years. The reason for this durability is it's natural preservative oil, known as cypresseine, which gives the wood resistance to rot and insect attack. Cypress timber also has very tight growth rings. This makes it denser and increases the stability and durability. These very traits are what make Cypress attractive to architects & interior designers.
**************************************************
Go Green With Sinker CypressSinker Cypress are cypress logs that have been submerged in water. These trees were cut during the late 1800s. Many of these logs were ax fallen from virgin forests during the industrial cypress harvest from 1880 to 1930. They were 150 to 1500 years old at the time of harvest. After the logs were fallen they were then hitched to oxen and taken to the rivers for transport to the nearest riverside sawmill. Some where lost and today they are retrieved by divers.

Use wood that was cut over 100 years ago instead of harvesting the wood that is grown today. When cypress trees are replanted today, it will take over 1000 years to grow as large as our river recovered timber.
There are no existing trees of that size today.( http://www.sinkertreasures.com/going_green.html )

Gorgeous !!!
This fungus ( EEEEW )"stereum taxodil" usually takes 125 years to germinate inside the living tree. Once this process is started, tubular pockets are formed vertically up and down the tree. This fungus started the process of hallowing the log.
This pecky wood is usually used for decorative purposes.
"HELLO DESIGNERS"....and this is where we come in ......

Typical application. I am , and always have been in love with Pecky Cypress ceilings, beams, and paneling. It is usually white-washed in Florida.
The Older ( higher end ) Florida homes seem to have it the most .

The finish on this ceiling is the typical finish color.
Just Yummy !!!

Pecky Cypress Door.

The house I grewup in had a room with Pecky Cypress paneling that was washed in a pale beige.
It was beautiful and interesting. Texture is 'great stuff .'
The durability is what makes it even great for the outdoor applications as well. Remember, Florida is very damp & humid for 9 months of the year.
If you would like to design green while working in this industry, think about this:Sinker Cypress is often used to obtain LEED points (The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design - Green Building Rating System). LEED was established for market leaders to design and construct buildings that protect and save precious resources, including using recycled material such as Sinker Cypress Lumber.
Peck Cypress is TEXTURE. I love texture.

And solved all kinds of spatial & architectural issues

With my unique style.

If I can't find it, I create it.

My rooms would make excellent movie sets.

I am a visual, tactile and audio sensitive individual.

Creating is what I live for, not math, not spelling, not science.

Just Great Design.

Just imagine how it would be if each of us,

If only for a few hours of everyday,We could be in a space that is our very own.A place that is exactly the way we want it to be

Surrounded by all the things we wanted to see,

The atmosphere we wanted feel, smell and the sound we wanted to listen to.
