' In The Closet ' About My Secret Love

This has always been a 'thing' with me ( and I am sure I am the only one who has known about it ).
All of my life, I have been afraid of red.
I like red, but I was always afraid of it.
It's just so.......RED !

Since my earliest memories, green , cream, taupe, and BLACK have always been my colors. They are my comfort colors.

I still love, love, love, black. I don't know.... it's just is so strong, in a quiet way.
If I have to do something important ( especially work related ), or go to a function where I might feel a bit insecure, I will wear black.
I feel much stronger emotionally, almost protected ( it's in my head, I know ).
It is like my very own 'magic armor.'
Weird, I know.
But hey , it works for me.


Now , when I was a skinny b-zitch, I always wanted a long, tight fitting, slinky ,bugle beaded gown.
In Chinese red ( orange /red )!!!!
It would have a very high neck line in front , and in back, cut way down, almost to the 'blank' in my ......... as low as you can go in the back ,and still be considered a nice girl.
But I am terrified to wear red . For me, going to a party or a function wearing red would totally freak me out!!
I have tried to do it.
I feel like there are horns blowing, bright spotlights following me where ever I go, and people pointing........and that was just in my house ! LOL
......I have purchased a beautiful red dress, and chanted to myself over and over;
" I CAN DO THIS, I CAN DO THIS"........only to flip out when it is time to go. And then I have to change all over again into something black ,because I am so flipped out that I can't wear red.

But I can do this.
And this.

I really , really hate red cars too. But , since I have wanted this car since the age of 17 and I still do not have it......I can do this.

Anyway, this, brings me to this...

Red is any of a number of similar colors evoked by light consisting predominantly of the longest wavelengths of light discernible by the human eye, in the wavelength range of roughly 625–740 nm. Longer wavelengths than this are called infrared, or below red and cannot be seen by the naked human eye. Red is used as one of the additive primary colors of light, complementary to cyan, in RGB color systems. Red is also one of the subtractive primary colors of RYB color space but not CMYK color space.
In human color psychology, red is associated with heat, energy and blood, and emotions that "stir the blood", including anger, passion, and love.

A few years ago I had my office painted a deep Chinese red. The color might be paprika or chili pepper. The upholstery/sofa is olive green, and all case goods are dark walnut. The walls are filled with HUNT Scene paintings where there are horses, riders with red jackets , and a lot of green. There are other 3 dimensional items , such as brass bugles, a crop, riding hats, blah , blah ,blah.

It is a fabulous room. Very Cozy.

This room is popular with friends and family, and now is more like a den than an office.

My daughter ended up with a red room as well.....go figure.

ME, who was afraid of red , has two red rooms in her house.

I guess I have always been 'IN THE CLOSET' about my secret love of red.

If you've ever driven through a rural area, it's likely that you've seen the red barns that speckle the farming landscape. There are several theories as to why barns are painted red.

Centuries ago, European farmers would seal the wood on their barns with an oil, often linseed oil -- a tawny-colored oil derived from the seed of the flax plant. They would paint their barns with a linseed-oil mixture, often consisting of additions such as milk and lime. The combination produced a long-lasting paint that dried and hardened quickly. (Today, linseed oil is sold in most home-improvement stores as a wood sealant). Now, where does the red come from?

Wealthy farmers added blood from a recent slaughter to the oil mixture. As the paint dried, it turned from a bright red to a darker, burnt red.

I can do this, and I have.

It is a rich look if really done just right.

However, No animal blood is needed.

They way I made myself get over my fear of red was by slowly introducing red accessories ( including accent furniture) into design jobs. After a while, and practice , I became fearless when it came to using red in other people's homes.

And before I knew it ..................or you will know it .........we will be loving red.

It became second nature.

( BTW, my living room has 22' high walls of soaring deep coral )

A Few Fab Bathrooms

This one is my fave. It is quite Palm Beachy. The mirror is framed out in sea shells. That is classic Palm Beach. And the black & white.................is classic.

This one actually is my favorite, it is sexy and masculine with the rich paneling......it is timeless.

I have done this, and it is fabulous.

A concrete sink is great, you can do what ever you want with it. Any size, and any stain (color).

Simple , easy to achieve.

Busy, Busy, Busy.....I find it warm , interesting and inviting.

Instead of a library/book wallcovering pattern, I used a cigar theme for a client.

It was really sharp, and better looking than this. The key here really is the antique chest that they have dropped a sink in.

OOOOH.................I would love to have this for a long weekend.

I can see me now up to my neck in bubbles.

This is great. It is simple , clean, and all the marble is divine.

The mirrors tilt which is so practical.

The mirrored is tiled.

What Will They Electrify Next ?

This is wall covering / wallpaper and it can be used for lighting in a room.

Imagine it's application in a powder room. When you flip on the switch, the room glows ...............??

This could be interesting.

I probably would use it on a ceiling, and maybe on the wall behind the sink mirror.

This immediately made me think of the glowing stars that people put on

children's bedroom ceilings. { which I never ever liked }

I just put this in because.....it's new, and we should know about it.

I don't love it when a client knows about something new in design before me.

And keeps insisting & hissing......" You haven't ever heard of blah blah blah ? "

What I really want to say but don't, is "why would I know about that ? I would never use anything like that. Ever !" MEOW MEOW

So.......

I wonder what they will electrify next. ?? hmmmm....

I wonder if Camilla Diedrich is part ' engineer ?'

Home Is A Castle

What a great house, it almost looks like Cinderella's Castle at Disney World.

The reason I posted this house is because I was drawn to the interior architecture, and all that I could & would do with it.

It is obvious that this is an older home with the exposed radiators and this kitchen. I happen to think this kitchen is charming. It reminds me of an older yachts galley. It almost looks like teak, I know it isn't ,but the bead board and color make me think of an older galley.

This room is used by the owners as the Family Chapel

Remember in Brides-Head Revisited, they had a Chapel in their home.

Linen closet, with nice detail.

I really prefer older homes, they have real charm and most importantly, character.

Look at all the wood with storage in the walls !

And that bay window is 'charm.'

Exposed Radiators...................

What a great big staircase, french doors down the hall, and wood through out the house for flooring.

And a bigger bay window in the living room.

Do you see a room that you would do something very different in, or a room you would use for a special activity ??

I kept looking at this picture over the mantle , and kept thinking, "that's Eva Peron."
Then I found it at www.nyu.edu .

It is Eva Peron.......hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

This is Nanette Lepore's home. See the 'Tall Ship' chandelier ..... ?

I was walking down the street and passed 'Z Gallerie' and saw this,

it is marked $ 799.00.

The last one I saw was in Palm Beach's Antique Row, and it was more like

$ 17,000.00.

A fixture like this will always cause a house guest to smile.

You just hit the JACKPOT !!!
