Paul Vogal ~ Custom Book-Binding

Below - Paul Vogal's new studio in the mezzanine of THE PLAZA HOTEL -NYC

Books are not the only thing that Paul Vogal binds.
Passport Covers, desk accessories, and other 'CLEVER LEATHER' things.

Think about this for that special client {$$$}
or
for that special friend.
I would love a personalized passport cover...
who wouldn't?

Lauren Lozano Ziol - Tables & Chairs

French 40s Dining Table

This table is for YOU.
Or.....
For Me!!!
It is classic in its inspiration-
1940's French - My Absolutely Fave Style Of All.

If only I could re-do my home.
If I move to NYC
I certainly will start with this look....
and finish with it as well.

Isn't this a clever way to hang art?

Water For Elephants ~~The Movie

I am sure many , many of you have already seen this FILM.
And I say it is a film more than it is a movie.
It is an a visually beautiful & gritty experience.

I didn't see it in the theater when it was first released.
A very close friend told me not to see it
because there was violence against animals.....

The Violence in this film is something that I have had first hand experience with.
It was unavoidable...putting a horse down from illness.
Yes, that is in the movie.
But.. if I can take it - you can.
In the movie - it's quick.
Not at all what I experienced.

Well
quite by accident I watched it on HBO and I said to myself
" if this movie gets hairy I can always change channels"
....for me it never did.

I am not a CIRCUS FREAK,
I don't even go to the circus EVER!!!
On last count,
I have watched this movie/FILM a total of 5 times now.
I think I need to own it...!!!

It is the story of a Veterinarian who just graduated Cornell.
{The best Vet School in my limited opinion}
During the DEPRESSION.

Reese Witherspoon's clothes are fabulous.
&
The camera filters used to make this film have a steady golden aged glow
making the entire film feel gritty, beautiful and AUTHENTIC.

The sets were divine too.
The personal quarters for R.W. on the train were great!!
The train....I love trains
and
any imagery I have in my head of train travel
is romantic and elegant.
On a circus train....not so much.
But
this movie will draw you in and keep you there.
It is a beautiful story,
and
have no fear...
a happy ending.

If you haven't already seen it.
I suggest you do.
You might feel the same way I do about it,
and then it will be 'a gift'.
Great movies & films are GIFTS that we can always return to
and recreate feelings
and at the same time ESCAPE from the feelings that we need to.

Have you seen Water For Elephants ?
If you have...
what did YOU think?

xx's

Have a great Sunday!

Marilyn Monroe's Last Interview & Murder/Suicide

You can hear her voice in these interviews,
which I love.....
Her Laugh.
The picture above was taken 2 days before her death,
and at the interview.

If you watch the videos you will see her home etc.

Below is an image of MM leaning out of her NYC apartment
at 444 E. 57th. St.
I lived 1/2 block away from her place.
It is a very cool prewar building.

Did you know that most prewar buildings in NYC
do not have 13th floors??

When I moved to NYC
the week of my18th birthday.
I had nothing but a mattress on the floor and a few books.
One of my treasures
was a square book of Marylyn Monroe images
taken by Milton Greene.
It was truly art.
She was like a 'human piece of art'
 that SHE created!!

I was obsessed with her and her death.
I am still obsessed with her death....
I just don't know what I believe.

MM was a brilliant make-up artist.

Without Make-Up & With Make-Up

She really was plain looking without make-up.
But
she had all right stuff in my opinion.
The Brows
The Eyes
The Bones
&
The Lips
She was a perfect canvas.

This pic was taken on the set of
'Somethings Got To Give'
just weeks before her death.
MM was skinny because of a gall bladder operation
that she had gone through.

What a great 'tush!'

What an angel face.

The French finally came to love her long after her death.
Not as a movie star
but

MM celebrated a birthday on the set of
'Something's Got To Give'

If you didn't get enough click on this one.
They are slightly different...playing more of M.M.'s voice during the interview.
I like both videos.

Did or Do you like Marlyn Monroe.....
I won't hold it against you if you didn't or don't.
It is strange, by the time I started watching her films....she was dead over 10 years.

Do you think it was suicide
or
murder???

About Renée Finberg

I have been in this business since the age of 22.

I love what I do and cannot imagine my life without Design.

Design Challenges are great.

And because of those challenges

I have imported fine antique pieces from Paris,

Designed and Manufactured Furniture,

Created Fantastic Window Treatments,

And solved all kinds of spatial & architectural issues

With my unique style.

If I can't find it, I create it.

My rooms would make excellent movie sets.

I am a visual, tactile and audio sensitive individual.

Creating is what I live for, not math, not spelling, not science.

Just Great Design.

Just imagine how it would be if each of us,

If only for a few hours of everyday,We could be in a space that is our very own.A place that is exactly the way we want it to be

Surrounded by all the things we wanted to see,

The atmosphere we wanted feel, smell and the sound we wanted to listen to.
