My New Kitchen Plan

Well, I am barely surviving this winter. Of course as soon as I returned from Boca Raton I got very sick with a .... WTF crazy virus, cold, stomach bug.
And now David ( new husband) has it too.
(at least he knows I wasn't faking it)

We are in the process of ripping the back of this tiny cottage's ass off.
The back of the cottage consist of a frighteningly disgusting kitchen,
a tiny back bedroom behind the wall of the kitchen,
and another tiny room to the side of the kitchen.
I am blowing out all walls to make one small great room.
'GREAT' room sounds nutty considering the size of this house.
It is under 1000 ft.
But I know it is going to be GREAT!
After all it is I who has designed it all.
(please dear g-d ....hear me)

Ikea Kitchen (no farmers sink for me) is what I have decided to go with.
My David is super duper handy. He can do anything.
Ikea makes a very nice product and OMG, cheap.

this is my choice from IKEA for cabinet style
I will only spend 3500.00 on the cabinets instead of the 12000.00
from quotes that I have rec'd locally.
And let me tell you this, this is a 3rd world up here.
Workmanship is horrible, not to mention...
I haven't found much integrity up here as far as contractors etc.
($$$$$ when it should be  $$)

There will be no upper cabinets ....windows everywhere.
I am going with a counter depth fridge
that will have floor to ceiling cabinets on either side for much needed storage.

These are my floors through out the entire cottage including straight into the kitchen.
I already have them in the front of the house which we re-did last summer.
Again I made 3 rooms into one.
It is a huge 'MASTER ROOM' ,
it is a living room and the master bedroom in one.
I love love love it.
All windows on 3 walls.

I will have an island made out of counter height cabinets that are finished on 3 sides as shown above.
The dining will be a banquette with seat cushions and tons of pillows.

And to finish it off there will be a huge wrap around deck on the back of the house.

So....that's what's going on with me.
How about you?
I would love to hear.

GENIUS FLOR - Flooring Tiles

Since I am living in a Maine cottage....
there is mud, and salt etc in the winter months.
There is not much pavement here.
Need I say more.
It is a 3rd world!!!!
Trust me on this-
it is in every way.
No shopping,
The contractors / handy men are working with an IQ of 72 ....if that.
So
YOU BETTER KNOW HOW TO DO IT YOURSELF.

Now where I work they sell carpet tiles.
But these are GLUE down.
This is not for me ,
I have a beautiful wood floor.
The above example is what i will use in my family room,
the TV room off the kitchen.

You can design your own floor on their very friendly planner as shown above

The great thing about carpet tiles is this.....
if you get a stain just replace the tile.
This is what I love.

You can build carpet style you want.
They even have a sisal look carpet.

They have chevron tiles as well ,
but only in grey.

And for a childs room.....what could be better?

Here is how you put it together.....
Sticky dots that do not stick to the floor-
Just to the back of the carpet tiles.
What could be better??

Follow your bliss which does not include Maine .......

I just came back from Boca Raton ( my old home of 30 yrs.)
to
THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't been posting because other than  5 or 6 months a year here in Rockland Maine-
it is HORRIBLE.
I hate it.
It has been pure torture in ALL the remaining months.

There is no place better to be for those summer months & fall.....
but
the rest of the time....OMG, it's the worst.

And I haven't posted because I have prided myself on being honest in all my post.
I have had nothing nice to say,
so I didn't want to post because I would sound so NEGATIVE.

My mother reads my posts,
and I didn't want her to internalize my own mistake of my move here.
But
was it really a mistake?
My move included precious years with her.
And they have been wonderful.
But I can't HOLD UP inside the house for 6 months.
I go crazy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I felt like an idiot when I was in Boca.
It was so beautiful.
Green & manicured.
I like manicured.
There is nothing manicured here.
I came up here to be with my MOM,
but other than my relationship with her.............
it is the worst move I could have ever made.
I guess I needed this to appreciate where I came from.
I have learned my lesson well.
My daughter was considering a move here, and I strongly discouraged her.
It would be a career killer.
There is no work here.
No fashion.
No design.
No nothin'.
It would all but destroy her (financially, relationship wise etc etc)
SO.................
That is what has been going on with me
PS my marriage is doing just fine.
Now that he has been to Boca Raton he is not loving it here either.
Who knows what the future holds for us.
Follow your BLISS.
It's great advice,
but it would be nice if it came with
BUILT-IN-GPS.
It's Time To Get Married
And pick up my daughter (Andi) & her sweetheart (Antoine)
in Portland Maine and drive them back to Rockland Maine.
I haven't seen her in 2 years.
We were never apart more than 2 months
until my move to Maine.
My dear, dear and beautiful Mom!
Has been the most loving and supportive....
I don't know what I would have ever done without her.
The older I get, the smarter she gets!!
This is the church we will Marry in -
St. John Baptist Episcopal Church.
Father Peter Jenks will marry us.
He has been great support and encouragement to me
since I arrived on the scene.
I consider him my friend and adviser.
Father Peter
Down the street a few blocks.....
we will have lunch here.
This is David my future husband and best friend.
I am thrilled and excited for my daughter to meet him.
(We are all Aquarius)
He wants to take us all on a sail after lunch
in the most beautiful harbor on the east coast in America.
I want Antoine to fall in love with Maine.
My daughter already loves Maine.
She has since she was 5!!
We may sail past a few of these tall ships.
David and I will take Andi and Antoine on a day trip to see Mount Katahdin.
After spending some much needed quality time with my daughter and her boyfriend -
3 glorious days!!!
I will take them back to Portland for them to spend 2 days on their own.
I am hoping that they fall in love with Portland and move up.
Window Boxes & Faux Balconies
window boxes, faux balconies
I adore window boxes and false balconies!!!
Adding window boxes filled with flowers can radically change the facade of a building.
Beacon Hill in Boston
I think the window boxes mounted on the second story
adds charm to this already pretty home.
There is no limit to what you can use.
Just fill with flowering plants and mount to a wall, door , or a window.
This really says "NYC SPRING"
Faux Balcony
What could do more for a structure than a faux balcony?
Faux Balcony
I have found a great source for both window boxes & faux balconies.
It is at the bottom of this post.
Faux Balcony
BIG BENEFIT to faux balconies:
ATTRACTIVE SECURITY!!!!
I hope all is well with my friends.
I will be getting married OCTOBER 5th 2014.
Surprise!!!
XXXX's
I have been a little distracted these last few months.
Sorry.
But I intend on getting back to posting soon.
