This Is Why I Do It!!!

Because maybe,
just maybe I will have the opportunity
to design a space or two like one of Eric Cohler's.
I love what he does....
his work is complex ....
and intricate,
yet clean and simple when he needs to be.
And then he does 'WOW' to perfection.

Love. Love. Love.
I Love this even more

Eric Cohler has credentials that would impress anyone.

Have a nice weekend. XXX's

I am hoping that I will too.

But it may depend on how well my presentation goes
(on Saturday AM)
with the notorious 'Sidney and Rebecca' on their
 new winter home.

Eric Cohler
Eric Cohler creates interior designs that infuse traditional forms with the unexpected. Considered one of the country's leading designers, industry magazine editors have dubbed Cohler the "Mixmaster" for his use of contemporary materials, which, juxtaposed with classical elements, give his interiors a jolt of unusual color and texture, as well as great comfort. Since establishing his firm in 1991, House Beautiful has described him as one of the 14 "best of the best" in the "next wave of designers in America," and he is included annually in their "Top 100" issue. His aesthetic is sought after for the country's top showhouses, including the Kips Bay and Hampton Designer Showhouses. Cohler's work often appears in leading domestic and international periodicals, books, and design television shows. Interior design manufacturers have taken notice of Cohler's distinctive design aesthetic, with Visual Comfort carrying his lighting designs, and Lee Jofa premiering a Cohler fabric collection in September 2006. Eric Cohler holds a Masters Degree in Historic Preservation from the Columbia University School of Architecture and a certificate in design from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Sidney And Rebecca....just go away...

Wednesday is my Friday, and my Friday went badly.
I just wanted to scream and cry out in frustration when my clients finally left.

At work I was given this older couple who needed to furnish their new Florida winter home.
Might sound like fun. Right?
After spending and hour with them at their home and taking measurements for their floor plans.
We set up an appointment to go over my presentation for their winter place.
I am going to refer to this couple as 'Sidney and Rebecca'.
Well... right before I left their home
we made an appointment to meet and go over the new plans together at 3pm the next day.

Oh Boy.....they decided to go and haggle
for a car before coming to see me.
So, between the 3 phones to tell me that they were running late......

I was just waiting....I don't like waiting unless I am not prepared and need the time to get more organized.
But...I was just waiting.

When Sidney and Rebecca finally arrived it wasn't at all what I had planned.
NOTHING when smoothly.
NOTHING!!!
Rebecca was cranky, tired and indecisive
And ditto for Sidney as well..
After all...they just finished   spending money they might not have wanted to part with. And I would represent the same thing to them right about now.

After 40 minutes of
'NO, that won't work."
'NO, I am too tired, I can't even think,
'NO, we have changed our mind about that layout."
'NO....on and on and on with the 'NO's'

I finally said; "How about you two go home?"
(or just get the hell out of my face?!!!)
"and we can give this another go on Saturday morning around 10am
when we all are feeling fresh."

They said 'yes'  and I thought to myself ;
Oh goody, goody, goody!!!!!!
I can hardly wait!!!

My 'Market' Wish Is...

A few pieces that I can use to lighten up
a very traditional home.
At work they asked for a 'Market Wish List'
These pieces were on mine.

John Saladino does it to perfection.
He combines the normally heavy and dramatic effect
of antiques/traditional case-goods
with the soft modern look of
waterfall-slip covered sofas, chairs and ottomans

These dining chairs would look just as fabulous with
a trestle table,
or a Chippendale dining table.
But the effect would be different,
and special, a DESIGNED look.
And that is what most people want when
they ask for a 'Designer' in a furniture store.
Right?

Now... here is the kicker....
the pieces that I am featuring in this post are all from
Bernhardt Interiors.
Yes, Bernhardt Furniture Industries.
I have a link to their site at the bottom of this post.

I have access to all of theses pieces.
But I do not have them on my showroom floor,
I can not have my clients see-touch-feel them.
And many people need to see the chair
or sofa that they are considering
next to the traditional case-goods
to understand 'the look.' I am trying to achieve for them.

Everyone wants an ottoman/bench for a cocktail table these days.
And if you are too proud to buy a reclining sofa
(and I hope you are, because if you are that worn out....go to bed)
putting your feet up on a comfy cocktail table-ottoman will do the trick.

What is your opinion
of the pieces from Bernhardt Interiors ?
Which piece do you think
would do the best on a selling floor?
Or...which is your favorite?

I am off to work
XXX's

Have a great day...and I will catch up on my commenting on thursday & friday

Leather And Lace

Ralph Lauren's
Heiress Collection is featured at
Designers Guild Showrooms.
I have put links at the bottom of this post
R.L. has had and still does have a brilliant career.
Who else could come up with a marketing strategy
that makes you think of leather saddles,
and the finest crystal, silver and luxurious fabrics all at once?
Whether it is related to your clothing or to your home-
I think it amazing.
He is amazing.
I am by no means a R.L. addict.
Nor do I even shop his clothes and home stores on a regular basis.
But, when ever I do.....
I always know it guaranteed to be tasteful and timeless.
And what a wonderful thing that is.
In this day and age,
or let's just say in our economy today,
anything you do purchase will be a wise purchase.

Like I said.....
He makes me think of  'Leather & Lace.'
....and cashmere, and black watch plaid, and crock loafers, etc, etc.
How about you?
Do you still go for his look / lifestyle?

My rooms would make excellent movie sets.

I am a visual, tactile and audio sensitive individual.

Creating is what I live for, not math, not spelling, not science.

Just Great Design.

Just imagine how it would be if each of us,

If only for a few hours of everyday,We could be in a space that is our very own.A place that is exactly the way we want it to be

Surrounded by all the things we wanted to see,

The atmosphere we wanted feel, smell and the sound we wanted to listen to.
