It is dramatic and elegant.

I want to do it.

The India Connection

I had all but given up hope
on the design job in India.
But....I just heard from the India Connection
and things are moving along.
They have finally received
the financing that they needed to start the project.

And as far as my posting goes...
I will be back on track this week.
My regular schedule will resume
and I will be able to get back to posting.

I am recovering from retail burn-out.

The Old 'Switch A Rooney'

Vertigo.

It is sometimes brought on by stress.

I am feeling overwhelmed 

with this 'August Sale' schedule.

My days off have changed 

and I don't know what day it is half of the time.

I am too sensitive of a creature 

for the old 'switch-a-rooney'

This is an upbeat song....

I am trying to perk myself up a bit.

Anyway, it seems that I am having a difficult time of it 

organizing my tasks at work,

at home, and anything else 

I need to get done.

Including my thoughts.

I decided to take a few days off from my blog

until my regular schedule kicks in again.

My brain isn't working anyway.....

I am not myself.

I have too much on my plate at the moment.

So, I have slapped some images together from

 the Hotel Vertigo in San Francisco. 

...wish I could get away for a week,

 or a year!!!

If the orange-and-white color scheme doesn’t make you dizzy, the spiraled mirrors and corkscrew staircase might. The 102 rooms are spacious, a loop of “Vertigo” (which was partly filmed here when it was the Empire) plays in the lobby and, during the check-in, you’ll receive a list of the best places in the city to “get vertigo,” including Twin Peaks and the top of Coit Tower.( New York Times)"

English poet Percy Shelley wrote, "There is a harmony in autumn, a luster to its sky." This fall, that's especially true in home decor. Rich, interesting hues, textiles, and materials work in concert to welcome the season when we all move back indoors.
As Gary Friedman, CEO of Restoration Hardware, says, "We're coming out of a very modern, minimalist moment in design into a period where people are responding to a mix of historic periods and classical references."
Designers and retailers are offering furnishings inspired by late 19th- and early 20th-century Europe and America. You'll find warm colors such as plum, mustard, persimmon, teal, and charcoal. The newest wood finishes are often hand-rubbed to a lustrous glow. There are details such as tufts, nail heads, and evidence of artisanal handiwork.
Linens are woven in patterns that reflect tapestry and embroidery.
And in tabletop, we're seeing lots of painted ceramics, vintage industrial objets d'art, and basketry.
New wall art includes reproduction antique merchant signage, folk art, and bracketed shelves for collectibles. This trend is all about feathering the autumnal nest with more traditional things, which evoke the past and spark conversation.
Restoration Hardware's collection draws from elegant salons, old factories, and the rustic countryside. From Belgian brick palettes to architectural elements to distillery floor boards, the pieces have an authentic look.
Along with wood corbels and reproduction archival city maps, there's a copy of a 19th-century Italian gas streetlight, and a glass orb pendant inspired by one found in a Victorian hotel.
Look, too, for tables and mirrors crafted of salvaged wood from 100-year-old British mills and distilleries; pieces such as the muscular Balustrade coffee table and the ornate Entablature mirror make strong statements. Bow-and-arrow shelf brackets resemble ironwork in the grand old European train stations.
A French Empire bed is a regal piece; with toned-down accoutrements in the rest of the room - perhaps some simple linen drapery, softly hued bedding, and a few well-loved mementos - this would be a most inviting sanctuary.
Rowe Furniture's new Robin Bruce sofa group features several tufted, voluptuous pieces that suggest a luxe Paris apartment, circa 1920s.
Crate & Barrel's Scarlet chaise is a show-stopping swoop of luxe velvet comfort, and the Dylan wing chair in buttery, pewter-toned leather just needs a book and a blanket to be the perfect curl-up spot.
If the notion of a farmhouse in Tuscany or the Loire appeals to your inner decorator, you'll find lots to work with this season. At Pottery Barn, painted linen pillowcases look like plump Van Goghs. Wrought iron candelabra, lamps, and horse-head hooks have a rustic charm, as does a rough-hewn dining table and bench. Hammered copper vessels have great texture. And a collection of heirloom quilts from the crafters at Gee's Bend, Ala., among other artisans, brings America into this relaxed, rural style mix. Crewelwork lampshades and pillows have a nice folk-art look; find more at Homegoods, too.
Boston-based Nikki Dalrymple's Acquire design studio and store has a great industrial lamp made of shesham, glass, and nickel that holds a vintage-style Edison bulb. It hits the antiquarian-chic trend square-on, and would complement any of fall's new decor.
The old days never looked so fresh and new.

Palm Beach * Door Love

My daughter is coming home today from her summer in PA. 

She was a senior camp counselor for the 3rd year in a row.

She loves it, 

and that is exactly why she changed her major to 'education.'

Because she just loves kids.

That is sooooooooooooo not me. 

I love mine...but one was enough.

But that is why she is 'her fabulous self' and I am endlessly proud of her.

About the doors........

I love iron and glass front doors.

These are smashing.

What Rich People Like

In Palm Beach anyway...

I have never been a big fan of Lilly Pulitzer but among the Waspy Elite

(and I mean that in a good way. After all. I have been a Wasp in training all my life)

it is Hot Hot Hot!!!!!

...and for years now.

Imagine we boggies wearing this at a get together.

hahahaha

Now if you need long matches for your fireplace...

try these.

It is a nice package for sure.

And it would make a great hostess gift.

Again, not me.

Although I would use one of these.

A hoot and a half.

This is a cute pick up item for someone you know from PB that travels a lot.

So not me.

I would rather die than wear these.

But it might have something to do with the size of my butt.

I 'd wear these.

The best part of Lilly Pulitzer is the way her shop is decorated.

These are the walls and I think they are fabulous.

But if you do like her stuff here is her story, it is really a great one.

As  reported earlier this fall on ShelterPop, the team behind Lilly Pulitzer has teamed up with Garnet Hill, the catalog retailer of whimsical sheets, home furnishings and apparel. The new bedding collection will be both instantly recognizable to Lilly fans with its bold prints and brighter than bright color schemes. 

"In response to overwhelming demand from our customers, we've forged a great partnership with Garnet Hill, says Janie Schoenborn, design director of Lilly Pulitzer. "We know that Lilly customers love to decorate their home, and they love to do it in Lilly. We've developed decorative yet fun, playful prints for bedding and towels made for multi-generational appeal. It's Lilly's way of saying 'goodnight'!"

We checked in with the folks at Lilly Pulitzer to learn more about how Lilly Pulitzer made its journey from a small juice stand in Palm Beach to its impending home goods line with Garnet Hill. Here's a timeline of Lilly Pulitzer's progress:

1931 Lilly McKim is born in Roslyn, NY.

1949 Lilly graduates from Miss Porter's School, where she rooms with Jacky Bouvier (the future Mrs. John F. Kennedy).

1950 Lilly elopes with Peter Pulitzer and the couple moves to Palm Beach. In the late 1950s, she'll open a juice stand in Palm Beach.

1959 The 'Classic Shift Dress' makes its debut at the juice stand. In the early 1960s, Jacqueline Kennedy is photographed wearing a "Lilly" and it appears in LIFE magazine.

1960s to 1970s Lilly Pulitzer becomes the unofficial uniform of the affluent at play.

1980 The Official Preppy Handbook labels Lilly Pulitzer dresses and skirts as preppy must-haves.

1984 Lilly retires and closes the business.

1993 The Lilly Pulitzer brand is revived by two Pennsylvania businessmen.

2005 Lilly pens her first book Essentially Lilly: A Guide to Colorful Entertaining.

2008 Parsons the New School for Design opens a retrospective of her work.

2010 Lilly Pulitzer Home for Garnet Hill debuts.

The August Sale....And My Best White Jacket

I suppose that I have mentioned that every year 

( YES.I made it more than a year....July 14th was 1 year for me)

we have a huge, crazy, nutty sale.

If I haven't mentioned it.....I will now.

It is stressful.

I am so not kidding.

And I know I have mentioned many times what a huge adjustment 

this has been for me to work in sales.

Not just in sales......

But, on the premier, hard core, real deal, best furniture selling job in town.

This takes guts and courage daily.

After all ....

I am just a 'creative type.'

Not really a 'flesh eating' type.

and hasn't he done well for himself?

will say or do anything for a sale type.

But this chic is scary. Really scary.

When I first started I had a few giving me a hard time,

and now they are my allies.

Thank G-d for small favors.

In fact we are pretty close.

And she does look just like that!

And then there is me......

I am freaked out about going into work today.

I have to work late - until 9pm

There are 2, 

I mean 3 people who are deadly towards me 

and I will be working alone with them tonight.

No allies.....

Just me and the other 3 devil dogs.

Wish me luck.....

this is so stressful.

Perhaps I will wear my good white jacket to work today.
