I am not saying a word....

I would like your honest opinion of this room.
The wall and fabric colors, the roses on the wall above the day bed,
and anything else that you take in.
Do you think that the slate blues ,
and the grey blues that are in style now
will stand the test of time?

Thanks

  1. The rose mural is abhorrent. The metal-framed daybed looks exceedingly uncomfortable; the white cushions' frills are ridiculous. The pelmet is too large and a dominating feature that is unnerving. The room is neither masculine (which you might expect from the colour choices) or feminine (from the rose mural), and that is not a bad thing, (the de-sexing), but altogether I think it's quite amateurish.

  2. It's a cold room, and, I have to agree with columnist on the roses, though perhaps not quite so harshly. On the other hand I just love the curtains (don't want them but they appeal!!)That colour combination is a magazine, display home combination not an 'I live here' combination! That's my opinion only!!! xx

  3. Hate it. I like grays, but I like to mix them with browns and creams for more of a rich feel. Don't get me wrong, I like quirky, but those wall roses are just plain icky.

  5. I like the colors, I think the flowers are a bit overdone,, Maybe much more subtle would be nice? I also think that cornice box is a bit much... Otherwise I think it is a great room.. What did you think?????Maryannexo

  7. I am kind of loving the room. IT is sort of modvic (modern victorian) It may be impractical in a few areas, but that is part of its charm. I can see it being used as a formalish short stay sort of a room. Entertaining a guest with coffee or tea or maybe something slightly stronger would be in order. I wish I could see the room again while I write this. But you asked for an opinion and I actually quite like it. It's quirky and elegant, kinda like me!

  9. I think of this room like I do when getting dressed: always take something off--like the roses on the wall and the detail on the window treatment. I believe it would be much more timeless without those two particular elements.

My overall opinion of the room: nope, not for me.

  10. Hmmm, I'm not digging the roase mural. I do like the color combo, but I think it will appear dated at some point. The daybed is lovely, but overall, not a design I would have in my home.

  11. Love the wall color and the white mouldings after that my love goes away. The roses look cartoonish for a rather serious looking room. I think the furniture looks out of scale in relationship to other pieces in the room. I love the white with the blue . Some of the room looks relaxed to me and other parts look stiff. I think the window would have been better with a soft cotton voile blowing in the wind, the window dressing is too large and over the top, literally. Maybe your client just likes the crisp feel of blue and white??!! Kathsyue

  12. If I remove the roses I think I like the room, however, I am not a huge fan of blue to start with and these shades are a bit cold for me. But the pieces they used are nice, I would have warmed it up with another color maybe or more white.

  13. Ohhhhh, you know I will tell you what I think: Accessories too small, lose the cornice board, take the draperies up to the ceiling, don't like the natural wood with the black iron sofa, would have lacquered it all shiny black, & made the room the same blue, with the white & black. But if I did that why not just paint the room a lush silver/gray? Those roses with the iron...no. Funny, my DIL gave my daughter that exact same sofa all done up in black leather, it is uncomfortable. One of my friends, an interior designer in Houston, Sherri Zucker, says "Don't throw good money after bad."
    Love you!

  14. My first thought? Grandma got a cool makeover from someone really young! There are many good parts...if looked at individually, but the mix here is off.

  16. Hey Renee
Well I like slate blues ..greys.. but this whole room is a tad drab to me.. and too fiddly!!! the eye doesn't know where to look.. nothing relaxing going on here.. and the roses??? well... what can I say...

Have a great weekend... thanks for popping over.. still having internet issues but at least the roof leak is fixed.. xxx Julie

  17. This room is beautiful Renee. It is elegant, and the style seems classic. My only question is what about the windows? Do they look out into anything, or would you rather have them covered? I came across your post this afternoon while browsing interior design blogs and the topic of window treatment selection was very interesting to me. It is true that you must dress your windows appropriately to bring out their true beauty.
