She's Not Her Mother..

Kate Hudson..........
I know, I know,.....
You probably think she is so adorable.
She is.
But not anymore adorable than one of the many, many, many
pretty girls I have just seen in passing, or I have known.
Lighting, make-up, and the right clothes can work wonders for anyone.
{Even me.....you should see my lighting people,
and my make-up and wardrobe people
as we all pile out of my clown car when I arrive at work.
And still... my co-workers seem just don't 'get me.'}
(hahaha)
*
Back to Miss Kate-
And as far as acting......?
Where is the depth ?
How is it that she is still around.
I mean when I watch her in a film,
and I look really hard to see 'something' there....
I want to want to see her in a movie.
She is Goldie's little girl.
Sometimes it seems she is trying to be her mom,
but not even through genetics will she achieve that.
*
I can't help but think of how many thousands of really authentically
talented young woman are out there just waiting to be discovered.
They are waiting tables, or whatever else they may choose to do,
while they are honing their craft and waiting.
These young actors go through a terrible time of it.
The auditions, the cattle calls, the rejections, and the heartache.
Many will wait a life-time for a break.
Few will get one.
I guess to me, it just seems like Hollywood is no different than
Washington or Wall street.
It always comes down to one thing.....
The GOLDEN RULE,
"He who holds the gold
makes the rules"
*And Kate's mom is one of the most powerful woman in Hollywood.
But she will never be this woman.
Goldie Hawn.
And no one would know Kate's name without mommies clout.
This is a real 'somebody'
and self made.
She won an Oscar in her twenties.
Does anybody out there remember
Goldie on ' Laugh In ?'

Goldie Hawn proved her ding-a-ling act was just an act.

She won an Oscar for her supporting role in 1969.

 in the movie Cactus Flower.

Around 1976 she married Bill Hudson of the 'Hudson Brother's'.
And divorced him around 1979.
(they toured with the 'Osmond's'.....wha?)
This is Bill Hudson, the bio dad.
Anyway.....
Kate was able to buy the home that she grew up in as a child living in Malibu with
her mom.
That had to be great for her.
The estate was right on the beach.
Here are a few inside pictures of the house.
I was only interested in this because Goldie lived here.
and that's where this whole post idea came from.
(And my little Kate and Goldie rant)

The is the Lanai.

So....I am waiting....tap tap tap
( if only i did have nails to tap)
Any opinions about Goldie, Kate, or the house?
Did you like Goldie???

Accept It Or Walk Away

Ernest Hemingway once said
“If something is wrong, fix it if you can.

But train yourself not to worry:
Worry never fixes anything.”

I can worry and worry about this house being a wreck..........
nothing will change it's condition

if all I am doing is obsessing
about it's shabby broken down state..

I need to accept it
the way it is and get geared up for the long challenging road ahead,
or walk away and accept the loss.
That is if I want peace in my head and in my life.
But If I want to change it... I will have to do it.
When I say change it , I mean the ' house.'

We really can not change very much in our lives.
We can change ourselves....if that.
And if you have tried to change any core personality traits of your own
you know how difficuly it is.
Not impossible.
Difficult.
I just need to decide where I want to be......
or here!!

....Needless to say I am reflecting on things in my own life.
How hard is it for you to accept situations that upset you?
I know it is simple in concept, but it is not always easy.

p.s. Hemingway's words do not lend too much encouragement for me
considering how his own personal story ended..
I know he suffered from depression....
and worry and negative thinking is how it takes it's first baby steps in to your head.
Or, at least MINE.

hugs & xxx's

A Dogs Life

I want to be this dog!
...certainly a simpler life.

THE SPLENDOR OF AMERICA’S PAST IS REBORN ON LAKE MICHIGAN
Published October 2009 in Architectural Digest
For the making of their new family residence on Chicago’s North Shore, a couple worked with architect Robert A. M. Stern and his partner Randy Correll. Victoria Hagan decorated the interiors.Landscape architect Douglas Hoerr handled the grounds. The front elevation of the 16,000-square-foot Georgian Revival-style house.

Everything in this home is smooth and subtle.
The greens & blues just work. I don't think this home is over done in the least.

The traditional and the contemporary are blended beautifully.

I love the floor.
I have the same materials and pattern on my bedroom's terrace deck.

The comforter is so comfy.
No?
*Note the covered buttons.

Great pool and a tiered lawn....I love that!

Did you see the movie ' Road to Perdition?'
I have never seen the shores of Lake Michigan, and was blown away by the sand and the water (in the movie scenes).
I never knew about the beautiful sand on the lake's shore.
It is just as if it were along an ocean shore.
This shot (below) made me think of the ending of the movie, and the sandy beach where the father
(Tom Hanks) and the son walk on the sand while heading to their hide-out.
A friend of the family's home.
I have watched this 3 times. The cinematography is outstanding.

mahogany sun-deck
....geeez
*Do you think I am too old to get adopted?

Do you like this home?
Could you live there?

…Am I Enough ?

I was looking for some inspiration…

Because I feel exhausted.

I do too much.

I look like hell.

(I did lose that 20lbs I have wanted to lose)

A BIG PLUS For Me Is, I will not be working on Big Bird Day, and I should be looking forward to cooking with my daughter.

It is her favorite holiday, and I hate holidays.

(nice huh?)

It is a wonder that she likes them at all with my ‘ poo poo’ attitude.

I was sitting in a meeting and thinking to myself,

Something’s got to give!

I can’t go on like this.

I am on fire at both ends.

I need to stop. Just be still.

And tell myself everything is okay.

I need to realize that ‘I am doing enough.’

I am enough.

And that my best is good enough.

I was wondering what I could read that would help me to feel better about things.

So I typed in on ‘google’ the words;

‘am I enough ? ’

And I fell into a blog named:

...AND I THINK TO MYSELF, WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD

(by Nikki-Brown)

...and this post from it.

While reading it I felt the clouds lifting, and I felt a little better too.

So, I am printing this post out to read & re-read to myself while at work.

Hell, I think I will frame it and put it on my desk!

Maybe it will even send a message to ‘some people’

that I work with.

Someone is trying to chip away at me.

And yep, I am feeling worn and chipped.

This is the post:

today, i am enough

Today, I am enough.
I am smart enough.
Wise enough.
Clever enough.
Resourceful enough.
Able enough.
Confident enough.
I am connected to enough people to accomplish my heart's desire.
I have enough ideas to pull off magic and miracles.
Enough is all I need.
Enough is what I have.
I have more than enough.

As I do all that I can do, I'm able to do more and more.
I am excited to be alive.
I rejoice and re-choice every day to make my life better.
I am happy, healthy, prosperous, successful, rich, loving, loved, and beloved.
I am comfortable with myself, so I am comfortable with all others.
I confidently greet each day with a smile on my face and love in my heart.
Everyone who meets me is warmed by the radiance of my attitude.
I work on my attitude continuously.
I associate with friendly, caring, nurturing people who are involved in doing important things.
The people with whom I associate want more for me than I want for myself.
The projects with which I am involved wow my soul.
I am passionately on-purpose to do good, be good, and help others to do the same.
I am enough.
I have enough.
I do enough.

Are you enough?
Do you ever feel like I am feeling?
Would this post help you?

Is it 'FRAME WORTHY ?'
xx's to my friends

P.S.
nikki,
thank you...you helped me more than you know.

Millwork Heaven !

What could be better
than the ocean and loads of beautiful MILLWORK?

Oh yes....and shingles.

The window seat up on the landing....charming.
And more views of the ocean.

I could be blogging on on my laptop right there on that chair.

Do you like bead-board?
The cabinet door fronts have bead-board.

AND.....a fireplace!

More window seats.

Cafe and a croissant anyone??
This is sooooooooo New England-y. I love it.

If you don't play chess....would you attempt it here?

This is what you can do when you have a tight spot for a bathroom.
Custom cabinets that  'bow-out' around the sinks instead of having a deep counter straight across.

Can you believe this is in Jacksonville Florida?
Who Knew?

About Renée Finberg

I have been in this business since the age of 22.

I love what I do and cannot imagine my life without Design.

Design Challenges are great.

And because of those challenges

I have imported fine antique pieces from Paris,

Designed and Manufactured Furniture,

Created Fantastic Window Treatments,

And solved all kinds of spatial & architectural issues

With my unique style.

If I can't find it, I create it.

My rooms would make excellent movie sets.

I am a visual, tactile and audio sensitive individual.

Creating is what I live for, not math, not spelling, not science.

Just Great Design.

Just imagine how it would be if each of us,

If only for a few hours of everyday,We could be in a space that is our very own.A place that is exactly the way we want it to be

Surrounded by all the things we wanted to see,

The atmosphere we wanted feel, smell and the sound we wanted to listen to.
