Is Acceptance So Easy? --Avoiding DRAMA

It seems almost too simple to be true, but acceptance --
accepting things exactly as they are --
can be the key that unlocks the door to

happiness.

~~~~~~~~~~
When I am disturbed,
it is because I find some person, place, thing, situation --
some fact of my life -- unacceptable to me,
and I can find no serenity until I accept
that person, place, thing, or situation
as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment.
Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God's world by mistake.
Until I could accept all that surrounds ;
unless I accept life completely on life's terms,
I cannot be happy.
I need to concentrate not so much
on what needs to be changed in the world
as on what needs to be changed in me and in my attitudes."
Your beautiful & wise thoughts????
    Happiness comes in many forms....Joy that comes from deep within our souls and is never ending only comes when we discover that Love is a verb...more motion than emotion......forgiveness is the key that unlocks the chains that free's our hearts to give.
  2. My thoughts? That you are right on the money.....so so true Renee, that oftentimes our grievances are with people or things that dont' conform to OUR ideals..but if and when we can "let them go" then too goes the frustration, pain and annoyances. I guess it boils down to accepting lifes imperfections, and peoples as well. Not always easy but man is it ever liberating! I am still learning and am a "work in progress" but this year in particular learning that not everything is in my control and to remember when I am quick to judge that EVERYONE and I do everyone is fighting some kind of battle...some big and some very small. It kind humbles me and how I look at things when I remember that. Great message!!
  3. My Dad always said that you can't change something you don't like until you change your attitude. You are right on sista!!!
  4. Nail on the head.
    ...The only thing we can truly influence and control is our attitude and reaction.
  5. Great insight Girlfriend. We are responsible ONLY for our lives and how we live before our Creator. The rest we just pray for!
  6. The first thought that comes to my mind is the quote from Elizabeth Elliot, " In acceptance lies peace!" And that came after her husband was killed by the cannibals that he was witnessing to and reaching out to! IF she can say that in those circumstances, then I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God can grant me the ability to accept others for who they are and forgive them for their inconsistencies, etc….Often times I get asked how I can forgive a group of my "best friends" that got a lot of us suspended in high school…in my mind I know there was really never a choice! I was the one that was wrong…We all make mistakes! I am probably the one that makes the most! It's hard to admit…but it's oh, so true! This is a fabulous post, Rene! I love it and I love you and your friendship…thanks so very much for posting something that makes us all stop and think!
  7. Ta Da! I am so happy this realization hit you. It seems so basic and simple yet we all are guilty of looking outside of ourselves for the answers. The only thing we can control is our reaction to things, and our own thoughts. You are wise, Grasshopper, and I love your journey. Thanks for sharing, and I hope the clouds are clearing and the sun is shining for you.
  8. One of my favorite professors was my philosophy prof who kept two buckeyes (thought to bring good luck) in his pocket and he would bring them out and twirl them around in his fingers and said it helped him to "worry the question." At many times my brain has been those two twirling buckeyes. It takes me a while to get "to the other side" of an issue as I tend to over think. Letting go of dreams—and I'm here to tell you, the hardest is letting go of hope—sounds bleak. But I learned that for me when I finally reach that No Exit sign, it's time to turn around, so down becomes a new up. Trust your internal GPS. Being lost is just worrying the question. Deciding to move on is wisdom.
  9. Renee-
    I am SO having to understand and believe this right now. When we are betrayed by those we love, it is unsettling. God put everything into play for a reason, and we certainly don't understand, but we don't have to. As long as our bellies are full and we have a decent place to sleep, we are better off than many. Old age has taught me a lot of tough lessons about humans, and many of them were and are not appealing.
    What I do know for certain is that whether in Heaven or on earth, times will be wonderful again.
    You are in my thoughts and prayers, friend.
  11. Who has the energy for drama? I'm in awe of those that do. Look at them as if they're a specimen at the ZOO.
    Remember reading, "It's safe to let go.", at a dramatic time. Has been saving me ever since.
    Of course, heading out to my Conservatory with a book, glass of wine & my cat pretty much solves anything.
  12. Hi Rene, After reading your comment on my blog post yesterday I wanted to be sure and come by and respond to your comment. Thank you for letting me know that Debra sent you, she is such a wonderful lady, and I am so glad that my post resonated with you. It seems as if we were both on the same train of thought. I can tell you are on the learning curve, just as I am. I guess that is what life is all about, constantly learning and hopefully, eventually we will be able to practice what God has tried to teach us through, people, places and happenings. I hope the rest of your week is a good one with lots of positive thoughts, feelings and people,
    familiar words....and more true than can be imagined at times....I, have found that as soon as I "let go" of the unacceptable, an answer is suddenly apparent....smiles.
