I Want To Quit

Now don't get your dander up!
I never smoked until I was 42 years old.
I figured by the time I got lung cancer....
it would be about time to die anyway.

I didn't want to live to be such an old lady
with only a tiny patch of hair on top from a few too many face lifts.

Perhaps this has something to do with
caring for a 97 year old who is in hospice.
She doesn't know where she is...
maybe she does.
And that is why she is living in my home
and I care for her with my EX husband.
{i know....weird}

I just want to make sure I have enough hair left...
I don't want to have to use a wig
to make the 'outline' of a face.

Get me??

This is after one lift....
see how far the hair line moved?
Every lift..... it is gonna' move.

I hate that look.
In Boca Raton, or anyplace where there is still cash flow
you see it all over town.
Woman with GIANT faces.
I don't want to be one of them.

You know the types....
the wind blows the hair back
and they have 4" behind their ears with just SKIN.
Or an 8" high forehead.
Let's not for get the pony tails!!!
OMG....
from the neck lift,
the doctor has to pull all that skin up to someplace.
And it is in the back under where you pony tail would be.

No More Tennis ladies.

It is no different than men with the long 'COMB OVERS'.....
the wind catches them and OMG they are exposed.
{it is sooooo funny}
Like you thought that their hair grew that way....
from the bottom of their left ear and all the way
over the top of their head to the other ear.

Enough of my vanity RAMBLE....
My mom bought me an electronic cigarette.

It works, it's cool.
And I am trying to quit.
And don't worry,
I never smoked an entire pack of ciggies in a day.....
EVER!
It was more like 10 cigs in a day.
So, this should be easy.
RIGHT?

I sure a hell hope so!!

  1. All I can say is...I love you. This is hysterical. I don't want an 8" forehead either but mine is sooooo wrinkled. I say this as I bounce along in the car on my way to the lake for even more sun...I just can't help myself. I have to be outside. Thank the Lord for sunscreen and bangs.

  2. This was a hoot! OMG that hair, those 8 inch foreheads, not a pretty sight! I am all for aging gracefully (with a little help here and there) little being the operative word!!!!

I have a friend who has done so much botox, her face is so shiny and taut that when I need a mirror I just look at her forehead! She is always wondering why I as looking at her as intently as I do...lol.
Thanks for the laugh...I needed one!

  6. I'm cheering you on & this is coming from a person with little self-discipline. I admire those that can set a goal & hit the mark. As for facelifts..you are so right, I don't want that goofy look either. Every man and woman over 65 are starting to look way too much a like. I so dislike getting old, but I hate worse looking like a fool. Just know no matter what the outcome, we love you!

  8. Ok: this is from someone who quit in 1989..after a few stops & starts beforehand..and NEVER went BACK! You CAN do THIS. Try the electronic thingy or gum or patches or Chantix or ALL of them. I quit cold turkey but that is another story. I have family members who quit using Chantix and friends who quit by using the gum and the patches. Whatever you do, it is, for sure, moment to moment and day to day. Lots of positive self talk and reminding yourself WHY you WANT to QUIT. Maybe sit down and make a list before you quit, outlining all the reasons you just don't want it to be part of your life anymore. Then when you have those moments when you are ready to bite yourself, you can read the list, curse yourself and the cigs and hopefully hang on for another 5 minutes until the madness passes. It DOES get easier as the days pass. When you make it to 90 days you basically are home free. NOT the HARDEST thing I ever did...but pretty dammned CLOSE!! SO worth it! Have never regretted it for a MOMENT..the quiting. Kicked myself a BUNCH for EVER starting in the first place. Good luck & God bless!

  9. Hi Renee,
Well, I gave up smoking about 25 years ago when I did smoke a packet a day !!!! I used the patches and they worked for me. It might have been psychosomatic but, that's how I did it. My husband, who was a scuba diver and used to emerge from the sea with two ciggies on the go, gave up, just like that !! After the initial shock !! it gets much easier and, we want you to reach 100 !!
As for face lifts and botox and fillers, well, I have yet to see someone who looks better after any of those processes. I am 60 now and it's all heading south but, I have had my youth and I'm embracing my mature years !! I don't think that there's anything worse than a face that has been lifted, a trout pout but, flabby arms and a crepey neck !! haha
After looking in the mirror, I just get the bottle of red or white wine out and everything takes on a blurry look and I look much younger !!!! XXXX

  14. Good for you!!!!!!I wish you the best of luck. I tried to smoke when I was younger, but I wasn't good at it...I would drop them, flick the ashes into someone's eye, or light the wrong end.....Let me know how the electronic ones work.....Maryanne xo

  17. I'll be rooting for you! Never mind the lungs... smoking is dreadful for the skin!

And you have educated me. I never knew why some of those ladies had such receding hairlines. Now I do!!

  18. I've never smoked...ok for a week back in high school. I'm so thankful I never got hooked. I have friends that smoke I think it really ages their skin. If anything else do it for less wrinkles.

    good luck,

    Carole

  19. Oh my gosh - this is so funny. And living in South Florida - I see that look all the time. But I know what you mean. Just on the other side of 50 - I am beginning to wonder if I should let nature do it's thing - or at least get a little neck and eye lift. I already have a high forehead so there is no way I am getting that done!

  20. THAT'S WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT....
    VANITY!!!!

the best reason to quit of all!

  21. Smoked for almost 9 years, finally quit when my daugter was born. It was not easy and I had setbacks for a few months off and on but when I stopped finally I felt and looked so much better. My skin really glowed after about 6 months and of coures i don't have to tell you all about the health risks, it is not easy but you will be glad you did.

  23. Oh geez...I never thought of the hairline...that is a horse of a different color. Yikes...one more thing to think about when pondering the facelift. As if the pain wasn't enough.
