What Would You Do????

I saw this and thought to myself....
OMG!!
 This could be fabulous.
It was born fabulous!

This settee 'could go any way' I want it to.
Be anything I want it to be.

It could be shabby chic-ish
{ just leave it alone - hahaha }

or it could go classic -  traditional,
 { just restore it to it's former glory }
or
it could go' glamour ' with a lacquered finish and wild fabrics...
or not so wild fabrics.

What would you do???
{ or not }

  1. ummm...as the sun is shining brightly here in the tropics I'd be tempted to put a colour popping contemporary fabric on it...think just leave the wood finish in it's 'shabby' state....well it's a thought ....what a fab piece !

  5. hope you nabbed it renee!

    ok, this will probably turn your stomach...........i saw a great combo with a similar piece; high gloss paint and graffiti fabric. it was some high end fabric house.
    it was fun and unexpected.

    hello? hello? anyone there?

  6. I can see a great potencial, Renee.
    It depends from the place you want to use it but something traditional with modern twist...Black and yellow check fabric or blue linen with contrast white double piping....anything.

  7. 'Cos I'm craving a little glamour......wooden frame - gilded & rubbed back, fabric - anything from Carolyn Quartermaine's current Flowers series in a dusty pink. Gorgeous, I promise.

  8. you guys!!!!
    i love the comments.
    and the ideas are superb.
    i can see them finished in my head.

    gorgeous.
    each one of them.
    and most importantly to me...
    they are done differently than i would have done the settee.
    and that is what i want to hear.
    YOUR IDEAS.
    i love to hear them.

    xxx i am off to work

    and millie
    we had similar ideas about the finish.
    i never took you as a 'black with a gold rub' kinda gal.

  9. I would not upholster it in a stripe! But a bright contemporary fabric, either a solid or a print, would be an interesting contrast to the frame. __ The Devoted Classicist, http://tdclassicist.blogspot.com

  10. This may sound crazy...but I would put a pair of contemporary floor lamps on each end, and then stack beautiful books on it...maybe a brass tray....large black and white painting over it...voila!!!!

  11. Renee,
    I would paint the frame white and put a Palm-Beachy colorful geometric print on it. Loved your comment, btw. xo

  12. Renee,

    Black shiny lacquer for the frame and upholster in flax colored painter's drop cloths. It would be durable and comfortable in any setting.

    i can see it clear as day...

    'lilly pulitzer-ish ?'

  16. Finally back on the air!
    Now I would strip it, lime it (if timber is suitable)then hit it with fuchsia dupion silk.
    Then again maybe Chinese red lacquer
    the frame and a black/white check in a slubbed silk!
    or maybe.........!!!!! xoxo

  17. I am not so wild - so I woujld restore it to pure elegance.. with a beautiful dark linen to pop out against the very unique frame..

    You go girl !!

  18. Gorgeous Renee. I like the softness of the left panel...it would be fun to explore that option...I like calm :)

  19. I would white-wash the wood and do some funky fabric on it OR leave the wood as is and do some linen-y something on it! I am always drawn to these Louis XV style pieces. I have 2 chairs and a settee myself!

  20. Please TELL US that you bought this and are actually going to be able to resurrect it!!! If I could do anything in the world to it, just for fun I would do the frame in a gorgeous blue lacquer and find the perfect blue and white Ikat to upholster it! Although I am totally drawn to the idea of a black finish and gold rub with any elegant fabric!!! WOW-WEE!!! This is delightful to contemplate, Renee!!!

  21. OOoh it is fabulous! I'm not as adventurous or creative as some of your readers so I'd likely just restore and use a natural burlap or linen fabric.
    Please let us know what you decide!!
