I Wish I Had A River ...

I could skate away on.

river - joni mitchell

It’s coming on christmas
They’re cutting down trees
They’re putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
But it don’t snow here
It stays pretty green
I’m going to make a lot of money
Then I’m going to quit this crazy scene
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly

*My Christmas Song.
During my young adolescents
I was ALWAYS listening to Joni Mitchell.
Her words and music saved my life
on more days and nights than I can count.
I was a sad kid who spent all her time
trying to mentally escape through writing,
*and other typical ways in the 1970's.

Yes. I thought I might be a writer of sorts.
But, that was all way before I found out where my true talent would lead me.
But, I would like to know.....
Is there some singer - songwriter who touched you deeply ?
If so, would you share with me who it is?

  2. I am a huge Joni Mitchell fan. Ever since high school. This is one of my favorite of her songs. Any time of year- but especially in December. Thanks for this.

  3. I would have to say Joni as well. Sure many others I loved, but Joni's songs made memories stick. I also would pine away in my room listening to David Gates (Bread), especially over a broken heart. Love this post Renee; you & Joni make things brighter for sure! xo

  4. Have you read "Girls Like Us" about Joni, Carole King and Carly Simon. Really offers some personal insight into these talents.

  8. In my early 20's I have to say that Alanis Morissette was huge for me. Not that I related to anything she sung about, I just liked how she had rage that she got out creatively. Made me realize there was more than one way to deal with pain. As for the 70's I was all about the Bee Gees and Robert Palmer ;)

i guess she didn't like my post.
    oh well.

    joni is the best.
i loved her so much growing up.
    i knew every word
and every bar in each song.
    * up until the 'hissing of summer lawns'

and then i guess i just put that part of my life away in a tiny box,
that i take out from time to time
when i want to remember who i used to be.

    xxx
    btw...
go ahead, make joni mitchell 1st on your play list.

  16. Well Renee, in my early teenage years it was Lennon/McCartney. Then, like Carole, Yes. Elton John and Nik Kershaw were my next loves. I was then influenced by my children and loved Nirvana, Faith No More, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. Now, I just listen to everything and anything. I think that we were more Bob Dylan than Joni Mitchel although, she did feature quite a bit. XXXX

About Renée Finberg

I have been in this business since the age of 22.

I love what I do and cannot imagine my life without Design.

Design Challenges are great.

And because of those challenges

I have imported fine antique pieces from Paris,

Designed and Manufactured Furniture,

Created Fantastic Window Treatments,

And solved all kinds of spatial & architectural issues

With my unique style.

If I can't find it, I create it.

My rooms would make excellent movie sets.

I am a visual, tactile and audio sensitive individual.

Creating is what I live for, not math, not spelling, not science.

Just Great Design.

Just imagine how it would be if each of us,

If only for a few hours of everyday,We could be in a space that is our very own.A place that is exactly the way we want it to be

Surrounded by all the things we wanted to see,

The atmosphere we wanted feel, smell and the sound we wanted to listen to.
